As a dane I have said this for years. When Finland took our first place it made us depressed which in turn made it harder for us to regain our first place

As a Finn, I can confirm we keep getting more and more baffled every year about why we're the happiest place on earth. Every year we must be bewildered by this again. Maybe ignorance is bliss, afterall: we're so confused at this point it turns to happiness.

Fun fact: the Nordic countries often win when the Happiness metric also includes data about GDP and wealth distribution. When the data focuses on questions about daily positive feelings and hope for the future (so ‘happiness’ based more on reported feelings) then tropical countries like Thailand and Costa Rica often come out on top.

Tbh I went to Finland twice last year and I got so much jam on the side that I left the country very happy. So there's some truth in this 😌

For anyone curious. It's mainly a matter of how that score is calculated. They don't just ask people if they are happy. Well they do but thats only a small factor. It's a bunch of things around quality of life instead and Finland indeed scores extremely well here.

Its because a standard finnish reply to "how are things/you?" Is "it can always be worse" and that is taken as oh you must be happy then 😂😂😂😂

As a Finn I think you are not wrong. We experience contentment we consider happiness.
