Finish is one of the Uralic languages, that isnt even part of the Indo European family. The nordic languages have more in common with something as far off as Persian. So while georaphically close, the languages have nothing in common. Apart from perhaps words that have been adopted or borrowed across the boarders, not sure since I dont speak Finish. As a Swedish native speaker I can understand Norweigan and Daniah fairly well, some Islandic, even some German and Dutch. But Finish. Not a single word apart from what some finish kids at kindergarden taught me. It is almost as dificult to understand as Chinese would be, only using the same alfabet.

There's this tiny and very stupid part of me that is actually a little bit offended by this 😂 cause Finnish wasn't even the official language of Finland while we were under Swedish rule, so this conversation is feasibly something that could have happened. Like, did you know that "pojke" is one of the few words that came from Finnish to Swedish, and it meant a (servant) boy?

Again, I know it's stupid and tiny. Old-ass language politics. But it poked me in a place I didn't know existed so had to share lol
