Wow, this looks more serious than I thought it was.

I remember I only developed this issue right after a dentist told me to open my mouth wider, much wider than I was comfortable with. I felt a click and developed this jaw disorder ever since. It's too late for me to go back and do anything about it now but please tell your kids about this if they go to the dentist. Don't let the dentist pressure them into opening wider than they are comfortable with.
As for those with the disorder, I've found that caffeine, specifically from coffee will agitate your jaw and make your pain worse. Avoid gum and jerky as well. Force yourself to avoid clicking it on purpose at all costs.

I've had clicking lock as far back as I remember. Never had pain or anything. I never even considered the possibility that it was a defect. I just figured jaws worked like this.

There is no definite treatment for this syndrome. But you can try the methods below that my doctor advised to help maintain a better condition and alleviate symptoms.

1. relieve stress. when you are under stress, you unconsciously clench your teeth and it will worsen the symptoms.
2. avoid biting food with your front teeth. It looks ridiculous but I use fork and knife even when I have a burger and pizza.
3. avoid chewing gum and solid food like beef jerky
4. wear warm and cover your jaw and the around in cold temperature.
5. jaw stretching. slowly open your mouth as wide as possible (but not to the point of pain), leave it for 10 seconds and slowly close it again. One set of 3 reps in the morning, day and night is recommended.
6. warm wet towel massage on the jaw
7. see a medical specialist asap!

If anterior displaced disc disorder is not treated early, in 6-9years it degenerates to the point where permanent damage is done to the condyle/fossa, connective ligaments, cartilidge and disc. Unfortunately, it seems like maxillo facial surgeons have done very little research on how to cure this disease and patients are left on their own to deal with oral facial pain.
The public need to put pressure on governments to fund research on this debilitating disease.

I had experienced painful closed lock for about 6 weeks. It happened so suddenly, and then one day it disappeared just like that. Completely well and pain-free. It didn't deteriorate, but the pain and the restriction of opening my mouth during that period was depressing. I had to take liquid/ soft diet and couldn't properly brush my teeth.

I've experienced this when I was in the 8th grade. It lasted only for weeks and then disappeared. It hurts a lil' bit and I can feel it cracking everytime I open my mouth and eat.

Holy shit I also have that. I can feel it when i touch my face. Kinda spooky knowing there's a skeleton hiding underneath my skin just waiting to escape.

I had that for years (10 years probably) the clicking without pain. One day I chewed some really hard meat and that fixed the clicking for me.

I figured out when I was 9 a popping sound happened when I opened my jaw, now I'm 15 and it didn't stop, oh jeez

The popping sound for me only happens when I chew on something, same goes for my uncle. Doesn't hurt or nothing. It does tend to get annoying though

There is no definite treatment for the TMJ clicking. Muscle relaxant, occlusal splint and in most severe cases surgery are the options.

basically if you have clicking jaw that means you're going to likely also get closed lock jaw very soon just like me.

Used to get it so bad as a kid that my jaw would lock and I couldn’t even open my mouth an inch. Now 25 and no more lock jaw, just lots of popping when I chew my food. Been dealing with it for so long I don’t recognize it anymore.

Hello, is it possible to use this video to explain TMD to my colleagues in dental clinic? Not commercial purposes, only educating inside the organisation. Thank you!
