So my 5 steps for a watercolour painting are
1) Planning: Spend time before you start painting on the choice of subject. What makes a good watercolour subject? What will help the composition
2) Drawing the outline shapes and objects. Get the drawing right before starting to paint.
3) First wash. Cover the whole paper except those areas which are going to be left white.
4) Add in the darks and shadows.
5) With a small brush, add in the details and highlights.
