Hoping and praying that Jordan Peterson returns stronger than ever.

I ditched my high school "friends" far too late in life, my fault for not doing it sooner. Cared too much what others thought of me. Lesson learned.

Thanks. I remember my Father use to tell me: "Better to argue with a wise man and lose, than with a fool and win". I feel that I have to shut up too much.

The summary of this episode was distilled by an author I read many years ago:
"Sometimes, you have to let people go to hell their own way."

The two main things to know: 1) Destructive people cause you to sustain emotional and physical stress, affecting your immune system. 2) Allowing them to repeatedly mistreat you is like rewarding them with approval for being terrible - they will never change as long as there are no consequences. That said, give them one warning before the final cut off.

I like how Peterson can talk to anyone, two well-trained killers, and they will listen. Different definitions of power around one table

Yep. I had to do this with my mom. She delighted in seeing her friend fail and then went about boasting about how she would never put herself in that situation. I called her out on it and she defended herself until I told her that people would think she was a cretin for doing that to her friend.

She also would give me horrible advice like telling me I should divorce my husband and shit like that.

She’s a horrible person that is incapable of empathy or real love. I had to walk away from her completely. I asked her to change and she refused and said that she’d stop talking to me if I kept telling her to stop being so toxic. So I gave her what she wanted.

It’s been too long since I’ve heard Jordan Peterson’s commentary. The dude has been such a positive influence on the world, it’s amazing.

Family will treat you the worst, manipulate the most.
Doesn’t matter If their family-users will use & burn yu as many times as you put up with it.
Cut all contact before they bleed you dry in various reasons.
It doesn’t have to be dramatic. Just do it & carry on with those that truly respect & care for you.

If you can’t change the people around you... change the people around you. / Bring those around you up or find new people. Jocko/Jordan 2020

I've noticed, at least in my experience, that being a good person isn't very popular these days

3:15 having been a lifeguard this is 90% true. It’s even more drastic than “pushing them away” like Mr. Peterson says. You push them under with the water then they back away. Thought this added to the analogy rather take away from it.

You have to be careful though, as a lot of people use this nowadays as a way to diminish and attack others. To label others as toxic and silence their voice. Don't surround yourself with bad people but accept that people have flaws and are not perfect. If you judge too harshly you will find yourself alone and miserable in your sphere of illusory perfection.
