Things need to change // finding a new work routine

After welcoming baby Indigo into the world, I spent a few blissful months relaxing with my family.
But, as the time drew near for me to return to my office, my stress levels started to rise.

My stress came from the fact that, try as I might, I couldn’t get my schedule to work out on paper.

Between homeschooling my kids, taking care of the house, taking care of myself, having a little bit of a social life, and running my business… there just weren’t enough hours in a week.

I wrote and re-wrote schedules, but I couldn’t get everything to fit.

Eventually, after a dozen or so attempts, I finally found a way to “do it all.”

And not even in a slammed, scheduled-within-an-inch-of-my-life sort of way.

But fit together well! Even with time to spare.

Want to see what I came up with? In this video I share it all with you.

Finding balance is tough, but if it means making time for several things you LOVE then it’s worth it. What’s top priority for you?

This is my FAVORITE kind of content from you, Gillian. When I see a mama who seems to be doing it all, I appreciate an honest look at HOW she’s doing it. Your discipline with your time is such a good example.

I found this video when I was feeling overwhelmed by my schedule with Ministry, YouTube, and house chores. We want to have a baby and last night I thought “how on earth am I going to be a mom and be able to do all of this?!?!”. Thank you for how realistic and applicable this is! A few months ago you inspired me to “boost”’my YouTube channel and your advice was so useful! But this truly speaks to my soul. Thanks!!! 🧡

I will watch this again (and again) to pinpoint what it was you said that resonated with me so deeply, and to reinforce the inspiration I got from it. I enjoyed this video immensely. Thank you for it.

I hope your days are turning out at least somewhat the way you've planned. Just keep enjoying your children and husband, and your nose in God's word, and it'll all be good.

Thank you for sharing your routine, Gillian! I'm barely keeping afloat with 2 kids, and I can't make time enough for my business. Honestly, you're the one I look up to when I'm about to give up because it does seem so impossible. Thank you for that.

This is the best! Gillian, I appreciate you sharing this. I relate to this struggle so much. I'm a mom of 4, homeschooling in a pandemic, in my third year of a PhD program (remote from home currently). Time for both prayer and meditation are so important to me as well. I do my best to exercise (at least walk) most days. All the things! In addition I unfortunately had to go through a divorce this year as well (crazy timing and long story) so am functioning more or less like a single mother now. i have tried writing and rewriting schedules for myself. I think I am going to now try an adapted version of what you shared here.

I managed to be semi- successful in a couple areas: my 13 year old helps with housework, so I delegate that when possible. And also for healthy cooking, I discovered meal kits so that is saving me time for sure. I order groceries online often too, so that is helping. i think what really adds to the challenge is the messiness and clutter in my home. I need to tackle it but have to keep prioritizing school (for me and my children), good food, exercise, prayer, etc. etc.

Any other suggestions are appreciated!

I love your day and how you gave some ideas how to work around the kids and making time for mate. Scrabble is mom and sister favorite when we see them.
Thanks again.

You’ve just inspired me to reformulate my own routine. The fact of taking into account my own energy levels, so obvious but something never really take into account (more others people or schedules!). Also, thank you for reiterating that life is just not work 🙌🏻

This is my favorite video so far, as a woman with a lot of responsibilities I'm still struggling with my time and this kind of gave me some validation about my working hours, thank you!

Honestly, this has been the most helpful/relatable video yet for me. I have a 2 week old, 18 month old, and a 15 year old I am homeschooling, and I have no idea how to schedule!! I want to get to the gym and work on my business and be with my kiddos. So, here I am doing just this and knowing my ministry is home first. :)
