When you order a cocktail at the upscale bar in Japan, bartenders high-quality ingredients and clear ice. But they also chill all the equipment and spirits before using them. whiskey, Vodka, or Gin
At a low temperature, spirits get a nice silkier texture since the viscosity of liquid increases and it's smoother to drink it straight up
This also helps to minimize dilution.

Freezer whiskey is controversial. People argue about it affecting taste.

A friend’s parents once heard about this and decided to try it. This was roughly when they discovered my friend had replaced their vodka with water.

Keeping vodka in a freezer is somthing common in my country (not Japan), everybody does that, there is nothing worse than warm vodka

Fun fact: the Japanese like clear and smooth alcohol so much that when whiskey was first brought to Japan it was a major bust, hardly anyone bought it because of the smoky color. So the Japanese men that brought whiskey to Japan then took, I can't remember exactly, something like 5 years breaking down every facet of whiskey and trying many different processes while still trying to stay faithful to classic whiskey. After many years of work the eventually came out with the very first Japanese whiskey, which was specifically tailored to Japanese tastes and preferences - namely it was clear instead of smoky and had a smoother taste. The two men that brought whiskey to Japan eventually split and created their own breweries which are still running today, over 100 years later

Makes cheaper alcohol more palatable and "smooth" and keeps the ice from melting quicker. Also, helps the glass stay frosted and that's a pretty cool presentation.

This mans voice is so relaxing to listen to. Also. Love learning about how different drinks are made. Thank you.

It also helps mask unpleasant flavors (a big part of why cheap beers strongly advertise that they should be consumed as cold as possible), meaning bars can get away with using lower quality liquor without the customers complaining.

Cold changes your taste buds to not pick up subtle flavors as much. That’s why cold water tastes better than room temp since you taste room temp more. If you have good whiskey, don’t freeze it.

Is it just me or is his voice so unique in the way when he blends his words they sound like they’re melting out of this mouth.

Edit: Whoa! Did NOT expect this many likes. 👍🏾 Thank you all for agreeing with me about the uniqueness of his vocals.

Been to hundreds of bars in Japan, at all kinds of prices ranges. Never seen anything but chilled glasses.

That is an interesting trade of for texture versus taste.

That gin is delicious but haven’t been able to find it recently in Ontario

Another thing: cold (or hot) temps affect your taste buds. If you chill your tongue before eating or drinking something, you won't be able to taste it as well.

Growing up, I thought you were supposed to freeze vodka because my father and grandpa would always have a bottle in the freezer

Off topic but I love spirits from the House of Suntory. Their Roku Gin might be my favorite Gin after Monkey 47.

I can recommend putting Whiskey, Vodka or Gin in the freezer if you drink them neat. If you plan on mixing them, it doesn’t make much sense except making the ice melt slower :^)
