The real problem is the fact that tuition costs have increased over 900% since 1982. The whole student loan business is a complete racket unless it is from a community college or trade school.

my favorite video yet!i could not agree more...sometimes education is highly overrated

There is nothing wrong with being a dentist, it is the school you choose/get into. State schools do not cost $480k. Why choose private education when after the schooling you have to pass the same state board as the state schools?

Try to apply for jobs with colleges near your area, where you are currently attending, or where you would like to attend. Go onto the online human resources page of each college (like FSU, USF, UF, Stetson). If you get hired then you may get free/reduced tuition (employee benefits package). Also, ask if you can use some Master's degree courses towards your Bachelor's degree (some programs may allow this).

Please only accept subsidized loans (accumulates interest AFTER graduation). Try to avoid unsubsidized loans (accumulates interest Everyday and After graduation). Deduct interest from taxes. Please avoid paying out-of-state tuition, private student loans, and for-profit colleges like Everest & ITT Tech. Community college classes Will transfer to 4-year institutions. To get more aid, prove struggles of parents (or yourself) to financial aid office: Foreclosure, repossession, bankruptcy, debt settlements, separation, divorces, death, new child, hospitalization, unemployment, reduction in income, food stamps, failure to pay taxes, wage garnishment, incarcerations, terminal illness or condition, etc. Choose credit unions. Banks are for-profit. Do not drop out of college = Less likely to repay debts.

You nailed it Dave! Generally speaking we Americans justify stupid decisions based on education costs relative to its market value.

So what you are saying is blame the person not the institution that is charging the ridiculous tuition rate? That's just blaming the cow when the milk goes up $3.00, without looking at the farmer or the economy

Not everything said here is incorrect, but there are loan forgiveness programs that you can take advantage of if you'll be a dentist or physician where the math does make you come ahead. For example, 1/2 million in debt for medical school. Then you do 10 years paying 15% of your 200k income then get loan forgiveness, that's still coming out ahead.

My university is 19k a year, and that's without any scholarships. Yes it's expensive. And also I am going to school to be a pastor and no I don't get a pass on math.

I'd love to be called Dr. Drummergeorge in 7 years when I get my certification + the $$$. Man, 2025 will be so good for me.

Dave likes to rant about doctors. Here are the facts. Assuming you make the 25% percentile meaning 75% of physician's make more than this here are the actual numbers by specialty for 2016 not what Dave thinks they are but actual national numbers. Allergist: $260k, cardiology $481k, dermatology $346k, family practice $188k, Geriatrics $188k, Internal med $198k, OBGYN $187k, Ophthalmology $307k, Pediatrics $186k, Podiatry $185k, general surgery $337k, Orthopedic surgery $445k, Urology $362k.

Taking out debt to become a doctor isn't as stupid as dave makes it sound. As he doesn't even know the actual numbers of salaries. He uses anecdotal evidence and always ignores what people say they are going to make. MY wife is a pediatrician, I can confirm the salaries, I can also tell you that if you are willing to live in more rural areas you can make far more. My wife has had multiple offers of jobs making $300k+ with $100-$200k in signing bonus (mainly for student loans) assuming you work there 5 years. Dave ignores these things as doctors don't fit his demographic of who he can help
