Do this when your anxious attachment is triggered
Показать описание
WHAT TO DO👇🏽 [SAVE THIS POST!]
When your partner (or anyone for that matter) does something that triggers you and spikes your anxiety, such as:
🆘Leaves you on ‘read’
🆘Doesn’t reply to your message for 4 hours
🆘Sighs heavily during your conversation
🆘Leave you in the dark about when you’ll be seeing each other next
Take a breath, pause, and do the following:
1️⃣Sit with yourself and be present.
2️⃣Place your hands on your belly to feel it rise and fall as you breathe.
3️⃣Ask yourself: “What does this feeling remind me of?” A memory will pop up related to the emotion you’re feeling.
4️⃣Then ask yourself: “When was the first time I remember feeling this way?” Let your mind take you back to the first memory that pops into your mind. It might be from when you were young, either with your parents or at school.
5️⃣Go to that moment and ask yourself: “What does this past version of me need in this moment?”
They might need a hug to feel comforted - if so, wrap your arms around yourself and stay there until you feel the anxiety dissipate.
They might need reassurance that they’re not alone - if so, tell them: “It’s okay, you’re not alone, I’m right here with you, I’ve got you.”
They might need to hear they’re lovable - if so, tell them: “I love you so much you’re perfect just the way you are.”
Your brain🧠 can’t tell the difference between then and now, so any emotion that wasn’t processed or addressed will resurface when a present-day experience triggers it.
Continue to reassure the past version of you who didn’t receive it when they needed it most to lower your anxiety and place you into a calm state.❤️
Now, you can think clearly about what you need and how you want to address it with your partner so that you don’t say something you’ll later regret.
From this place you can ask for what it is you need. 😉
