It is important to stretch our chest muscles such as the pectoralis muscles because when they are tight, they pull your shoulders inward. This video has three simple stretches to loosen your chest muscles.

The first stretch is a corner stretch. Find a corner in your house and place a hand on each corner. Stagger your feet, and bend the front knee forward pushing your head towards the wall. Try to squeeze your shoulder blades, or scapula together like you are pinching them together. Next, clasp your hands behind you, and push your hands downward and push your chest out. Do each of these 3 times for 30 seconds. For the last exercise, you need to lie down on your back. Cross one leg over your body to the opposite side you want to stretch. Put your arm straight out, and take a deep breath. Your arm will lift gently off the floor when you breathe in and stretch your chest.

thank you i always have a pain on my left chest and i think its my heart muscles it sometimes feel pain there when i take a deep breath or inhail deeper

I've been battling a chest strain for about a week now, and until today, was in so much pain that I couldn't do anything but pop prescription pills and sit on my couch...I was reading on another site that sitting still only exacerbates that pain and that you should try light stretches in order to eliminate the need for the meds...considering that one of the scrips is oxycodone, (strong, and I've never taken anything this strong) and the pill bottle warns that it could become addictive, I've been looking for ways to ween myself off it...these stretches were JUST what the doctor ordered...after hardly being able to take deep breaths without wanting to cry out in pain for the last several days and being due for another dose of the strong stuff, lol, I am on my couch after having done your stretches, relatively pain free.  I'll continue to do these and take the less strong Aleve and will hopefully have a fully functioning chest and shoulder soon. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing these easy and rather relaxing stretches! :)

In I'm 9 years late but omg thank you so much, I have been struggling with intense chest and shoulder pain from doing way to much weight and reps at the gym for the past 4 days now, and I have been in a hunched position all of these days in absolute agony, not even pain killers helped but these 3 stretches omg it fixed me up within minutes, I still have aches and pains but they have been reduced by atleast 50% to 70% unlike pain killers that did nothing. I am also more mobile and can stand up straight now and move about freely with minimal pain. Again thank you so much.

Been having chest spasms from what myself & the nurse at the Little Clinic believe to be the muscles in my chest (she could feel the muscle spasming & said my heart sounds great). I’m a 24 year old fit male so I’d assume it’s not a heart issue. Did these stretches and the fluttering stopped. Hopeful this can be a fix moving forward so I can keep working out without worrying I’m dying lol

Holy crap this worked! After one stretching session, my muscles aren't tight! I plan to do this until they are no longer tight, in conjunction with my heating pad.
