The Martian 4K HDR | First Contact - Hexadecimals - 2160p 10bit HDR 7.1 Atmos
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.

What I love about this movie is there are no human antagonists. The humans are all working together to solve the problem. The antagonist is the situation Mark is trapped in.

imagine typing all that message and transfering it from earth to mars just to get a "K" reply

"Glad to hear it, really looking forward to not dying"

Thing Sean Bean said when he found out he'd been cast in the movie somehow made its way into the script lol

This was my favorite part in the whole movie: salvaging what's already there to stay alive. Improvise, and overcome

That sharp inhale when he reads that they've been watching him for a while is one of my favorite moments in the movie. Sure, he knew he had contact with them, but as far as he knew, to them, pathfinder just suddenly started getting a signal and they had no idea he was alive until then. He now knew they were watching, and he knew that they had been watching pretty much since just a couple of sols after the scrub. He thought he was all alone, they had given up on him as dead, but knowing now that not only were the brightest minds NASA could assemble working to get him home, but that the discussion regarding it was already in motion long before he even went for pathfinder.

I love how...optimistic he was. He never got sad or depressed just use what he had and survived.

This entire movie is the premiere example of problem solving under the most consistent variable changes in a extremely dire survival situation.

Minor detail but i like Mark Watney’s breathing and on the verge of tears at 4:19. Man is going through a rollercoaster of emotions here now that he knows he not alone and he has hope he’ll live. Great job Matt Damon.

Mark Watney might be my favorite fictional character. He is an absolute champ.

In a library that includes Good Will Hunting, Bourne Identity and The Departed, I think this is Damon's best movie by far.
The level of emotions he had control of, the personality he managed to cram into a man talking to a camera, is just amazing.

I love this small details in Damon's acting, like him breathing a little more heavily reading that they've been watching him for a while and later when he is about to leave Mars and hears Captain Lewis voice, first human voice that is not his for the first time since they left him and starts crying.
Matt Damon is one of the best actors in the industry (even with a few hiccups like We Bought a Zoo).

Imagine this conversation was done in real time, with them waiting 5 to 20 min for the signal to arrive.

Something I love about this is how only when finally having a reliable means of communication does he show a bit of emotion. Shows how keeping yourself busy helps your mental health.

Maybe I'm biased because I love this film but this is one of Matt Damon's best performance.

Unrealistic. He eats a piping hot potato without doing the 'whhew haa hheeew" mouth blow maneuver. Literally unwatchable.

i'td be real funny if he said someshit like "If i get outta here, i become the first man to get stranded on mars and survive, if i die, i'm the first one to die on mars, it's a win-win"

Man, in the middle of freezing atmosphere and lack of oxygen and other vital resources, that hot steaming potato sure looks deliciously cozy.
