My problem is, when I’m injured, I lie to myself and think I’m “okay” and make it worse. Lol. I’ve learned the hard way. Now I’ll be more careful

Wow, totally needed this. Haven't hit the gym in 2 weeks after injuring my shoulder at work. It's totally messed up my head space. Started feeling some depression etc.

Thanks Greg. It's like you knew I needed this.

Love this, perfect timing too. I dislocated my shoulder on New Years, was currently at the peak of my physical performance in the gym. Now stepping back to the basics and starting from the foundation once again.

She single handedly trained harder than last time. But seriously this is inspiring. Big ups.

My inflamed shoulder bursa REFUSES to heal because I’m an idiot presumably overtraining. It’s been 6 months and this stupid thing is supposed to have healed ages ago. I ran out of physio benefits so now I just hit the gym and continue to hurt myself

I just went through my whole black belt test with a broken finger. Anything is achievable, don’t be afraid to train.

I was hit by a truck and 70mph a little year ago while on my motorcycle. I broke 14 bones, fractured multiple vertebra, had a brain hemorrhage and had to have two emergency surgeries one of them on my knee to reattach all the tendons and put the skin that pealed off back in place. I was in the ICU for a week and then moved to a regular room for a bit. I couldn't walk for two months due to my leg and knee and the multiple breaks in my pelvis where both legs attach. As soon as I could walk I started rehabilitating myself and working out. I was pissing into a bag still through a catheter so I would just hang the bag on my walker and then on my waistband and get too it. All my ribs were also broken on one side so I had to start off light. Within a few months of walking I was back to being beach ready and went on a vacation. While there I used the hotel gym. I'm now back to lifting relatively heavy and running. I cant squat heavy yet or go to heavy on my leg but I am squatting. My knee swells up each time but I am not damaging anything according to the doctor. It's just going to be like that for awhile. If you looked at me now and didn't see the scar across my knee you would have no idea any of that happened.

TLDR No excuses, life sucks sometimes, just get to it.

Fractured 9 vertebrae in a car wreck, June 2015.
Did a power lifting comp November 2016. Beat all my PRs.
Lost 40lbs spring of 2020, water park accident tore my bicep up in my shoulder July 2020. Couldn't even do one pushup, or pick up my lunch box from the back seat of the car. After that transformation, I was heart broken.

There's always work arounds! Find a gym with more machines so you can manipulate angles, range of motions and pressure points! Learn new techniques. With the broken back I had to change my squat techniques. The bad bicep made me change bench form. Both made me better.

Last April I ruptured my triceps off the bone and had it surgically repaired. I couldn’t lift with that arm for 4 months. I NEVER MISSED A WORKOUT. 2 days after surgery I was doing Belt Squats and training the good side. My left arm atrophied 3.5 inches, but my quads and my good arm got bigger. I’m now back to pressing with both arms. Keep training!

Needed this! I tore my ACL and just had surgery and it’s so so hard to stay positive and motivated to go lift.

I agree with what you say, I have experienced this. In September I got an AC joint injury. For the first few weeks the pain and inflammation was really bad. I never stopped training and for the whole time I've been able to maintain my size&have good workouts. What this taught me is that your mind is extremely powerful. For example, yesterday I went to the gym feeling a little down and the pain in my shoulder was really bad. I thought I might not be able to work out again for a few days because of this. Today, I woke up and I decided I won't let the pain dictate my happiness and energy. I decided that I was gonna go to the gym and have a good workout. It worked, I had a great workout that was almost painless. A complete turnaround in 24 hours just by changing my thoughts&mentality. Your mind is very important. I also suggest visualizing the injured area fixing itself and having a lot of belief that everything will turn out okay.

this is what we need as we get injured. Just did some leg workout and I'm getting knee pain, this series encourages me in a smart way. Continue to keep this series up, would love to see exercise variations for different injuries.

Very true. Dont push it. Just focus on small movement.

As a DPT student, what Greg says is true. Important to keep moving even while injured, just being educated from medical professional what activity is okay and what is not!
