Cat Dozer Tractor Pull

preview_player
Показать описание
A Caterpillar D8 dozer hitches up to the sled at the 2015 Carver County Fair tractor pull. They threw everything they had on the sled to try to stop the dozer, the sled weighed in at 60.000 pounds, close to the 80,000 pounds the dozer weighs. It was a long crawl but the dozer was able to drag the sled past the 350 foot mark before it ran out of track.

at one point, I thought he might even bump the throttle up off idle

I love how you hear the engine load slowly and surely change, but it just keeps its pace.

I operated a D7 in a logging operation in Australia (where I live) and I could have told you how this was going to turn out ! Weight and torque!!

Operated a D7 and a D9 while in the army. Loved it. So much power. Especially that D9. You don’t want to get in the way of that thing.

This is how machines should run, a full pull and it could even take it home, Thanks Moss Rods for showing me and letting me appreciate this fine machinery, keep them coming

Hi, Folks.
Neat video and thanks to Moss Rods for sharing.

I don't know how many other people noticed it but that D8 was getting close to its maximum pull with that sled load. If you look closely, you can see that, once the full weight came on, the front of the tracks are not immediately getting right down on the ground until about the mid-point of the tracks. This means that it's getting close to its maximum pull. If it had not had the blade on, it may not have done as well and there certainly would have been more track slip,

That said though, 60, 000# is a pretty good pull for that model of D8H, which I suspect is one of the early 235 HP ones and not the later 270 HP version.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Ladies and gentlemen, that's the importance of mass, gearing, and operating range.

New townhouse tenant: "How often do they have these tractor pulls?"
Property manager: "So often, you won't even notice."

Here in the UK my father used to grow potatoes for a frozen potato chip manufacturer. In winter with very wet clay soil they used to pull the big harvesters with wheeled tractors providing power to the harvester and a caterpillar tractor in tandem providing the ground speed regardless of conditions as the factory needed the potatoes to arrive at a constant speed. Then at the end they put the blade back on and level the field. It was just brutal but effective application of power to get the job done.

No contest there in that video pull as the caterpillar tracks just dig in until they get traction.
