Taming A Wild Crow

In this video I want to show you how it all began. These clips are from 2019. Kräri was still really shy, I could not look at him and he kept jumping back and forth. But he never gave up. I waited while he slowly started to overcome his fear and sometimes took food out of my hand.
I hope you enjoy it!

I used to operate heavy equipment at a lumber mill (stereotypical Canadian lol). It started as me just throwing my banana peels, orange peels, apple cores onto the ground at work. I noticed my soon to be feathered friend would swoop right in and take my fruit scraps. Eventually I bought nuts from the dollar store, took donated expired pet food, expired tuna. Anything and earned the Crows trust. He/she recognized my vehicle after some time and would follow my machine around until I was alone and stepped out. Even on days I had no food for that bird they always came to say hello and land on my arm from time to time. I also had received a few gifts yes lol, mostly shiny nuts and bolts since there was nothing else around but the lumber mill itself really. Although the odd time I got empty brass shells from spent rifles cartridges. One day that crow disappeared for good, hopefully for a better home and not in death.

I'll never forget how it got me through the shitty work weeks having a misunderstood feathered friend to look forward to. I don't miss my old job, it was extremely toxic and stressful, it took a big toll on my mental health. I do however miss that damn crow who chose me, I never chose him/her. They befriended a human lol. I was just along for the ride

I feed corvids, especially jackdaws and hooded crows, every winter. Not that they need it but for me it is the best way to study wild corvids, or free corvids as I prefer to say. I have studied seabirds earlier, especially gulls. Was working as a research assistent in seabird projects but have never experienced the same connection as you can get with corvids. As everyone knows who know their corvids, patience is the key. But if we invest time and have the right respect and behaviour, the reward is high and mighty. I really like this channel. Thank you.

Such a beautiful moment when this sweet bird eats from your hand.

your hooded crows are magnificent. Our native flock is solid black. I've counted 27 in all. I've known the Patriarch and Matriarch for almost 8 years now. We give them dry roasted peanuts and various fresh treats throughout the year. The patriarch is very curious about me, but his mate is more cautious. He's always watching whenever she's around. They've brought me colorful rocks, tiny pine cones, and green cherries from our neighbors' trees. He's become more bold this year and I hope he'll come close enough for contact soon. I've learned their call to announce dinner time and use a crow call to make the announcement myself. Only takes minutes before the trees are filled with crows ready to take their turn coming down for the bounty. They're quite fascinating.

Great video! I became friends with a crow and his girl at my work.
He's so loyal and always comes to me when I call him in the morning for peanuts.
Unfortunately he still is really shy but is warming up to me. Sometimes they all come and he says over to me and takes the peanuts while the rest just watch.
Pretty cool.
I befriended the raccoons, the feral barn cats, and the wild geese that come around. My goose let's me pet him sometimes, it's pretty cool 😂.
Now I befriended the crows. They are like the kings of all the friendly birds that hang in out parking lot.

One day a red tail hawk tried to grab him while I was feeding him and luckily he dodged it. Immediately all of the birds started to dive bomb the hawk and chase him off with my pair of crows on him like glue.
The crows are special indeed!

Thanks for making this video!❤

UPDATE: I have officially made visual contact! And eye contact. My new feathery friend now knows my face :) I think I can start setting up a camera now :)

I just started the training process with a couple of the local crows. I left some peanuts out for a couple of days but no contact. A week later I placed new peanuts on the same place and about 2 days after that, I noticed they cracked them open but did not eat the peanut meat. Is that the crow attempting to trust me? P.s I would love to see a different angle of the camera to record you recording the crow! :) for perspective

I have just been feeding the hooded crows at my window here in Berlin, and they are already coming to my window to say hello. They get the food even with the window wide open and with my in sight :) Also they are quite different, how brave they are. The bravest one is actually quite young and smaller than the others. I guess if he stays that brave, he will have enough food for a growth spurt.

Love your video. I just began befriending a family of American crows and I am documenting it as a series on my channel. I love your passion, and the hooded crows are stunningly beautiful.

Krari is so beautiful! Corvines are all gorgeous, but crows are especially pretty. Seeing them trying to think up a solution to a problem is always so great. I noticed that a lot of the food are raw in-shell peanuts. Is this a favorite of his?

Love this, I have a crow that follows me round the park where I feed the squirrels, always stays around 15 ft from me, I gave him some cherry's and monkey nuts the other day, I always look forward to seeing him, keep up the great work 😊

Such patience! It encourages me to keep going. My crow pair and their kid come every day and watch me. I feed them from my window, but only when they think I'm not there do they come to the window ledge to feed for themselves. Hand feeding seems a long way away.

amazing video! <3 ive always had a soft spot for them, they are so underrated and misunderstood. But they are so intelligent, gentle and witty.
