The Logitech Driving Force Shifter seems to have been de-evolutionizing throughout the years... here are the top things I dislike about it.

It feels like a short shifter. I understand you want long shifts for a truck sim. But I don't see why you would want to stirr a soup when playing racing games.

Personal opinion, i think it feels a bit cheap but it does what it’s supposed to do. Great for budget sim racing. 7/10

The best part about this shifter I've seen, is that you can modify the shit out of it and make it good

Supposedly, the mechanism, that changed from H-pattern to sequential modes was one of the first things, that broke, so that's why they dropped it in G27 shifter. And since G29 had all of the buttons on the wheel (G27 had just 6 buttons and G25 just 2), they didn't need the buttons on the shifter anymore

My only issue is that it feels like plastic when shifting. It has no weight to it. It feels unsatisfying to run between gears. But it gets the job done so I overlook it

The gears being shirt isnt that bad. It feels like im changing gears in my mustang with a short throw shifter

Most of these things are due to price, I don't see how going in reverse is that difficult for you, but I've got a car that uses the same mechanism so I guess I'm used to it. The shifts are WAY better short, you don't want to be shifting with a long throw in a sports car it makes shifting really slow compared to the shorter throw and is actually harder for me to miss gears when using short throw shifters. The thrustmaster shifter is about the same throw, but the leaver is longer and the shifter is gated.. and it costs twice as much..

3:23 honestly I feel like gears in a real car are closer together and a lot easier to miss shift, though it may be just the car I drove

I totally understand what you mean about the reverse and 6th. When I'm not in a rush I can easily get reverse. When in a race and need reverse quickly, you don't realise how much force and travel it takes to push down to get reverse

I personally think it’s a good shifter for people who are just getting into sim racing

I think this shifter is the best starting point for anyone that wants to get into sim racing. Is it mediocre? Yes. Cheap? Absolutely. But for a beginner, it can't be beat. The best part is that you can usually find these in the used market for even less money.

I feel like this was a vent about the Logitech shifter that you hate but can't stand to pay for a more expensive one

All of these things can be fixed/modded. Just one example, get a custom shift knob for it, their cheap and come in a lot of sizes and shapes, that will fix the crappy plastic top and the feel of the shifts feeling too close

I like the Shifter. It’s Basically like a Short Throw.

Yes, everything you mention is also what happens on my shifter too. To conclude: The shifter is and feels extremely cheap but it does the job (most of the times)

So i literally just bought a G29 with the shifter as my first ever wheel.

Ive never used any sim wheels aside from logitech ones before, so idk about those, but I *HAVE* owned driven plenty of real manual cars, so im comparing it mainly to my real car outside.

It feels... good enough. Yes, the reverse gear was the first thing I noticed. It hates going into reverse, also the shifter feels too light for what im used to.

Yeah the gears are very close together, but I havent had any problems with miss shifts so far, only once or twice.

Otherwise for me, it feels satisfying and realistic enough for my needs at least.

You can change the knob, make a diy sequential mode, make it more stiff, the reverse you can change it so its the 6th gear.

You know what makes this shifter worlds better? A new shifter knob, i 3d printed a stick one for mine so it’s taller and it fixed all 5 of these errors, shifting feels great

The problem with reverse is actually well known, it seems it occurs in all versions. This is caused by micro-cracks on the circuits of that small board with two wires and a switch, which can be found at the very bottom inside of the shifter. The reason it don't react sometimes is after some number of pressing the lever down to use the reverse, it presses that button on that tiny board, and clearly it's not sturdy enough and eventually connections on that board are sometimes split/broken (there's two of these lines, leading from one of the wires to the switch and then back to the second wire.) To fix that you need to re-make these two circuits, ie. by soldering some wire instead, which will be much more sure working in such stressful conditions.
So: open the shifter, carefully remove the main shift mechanism and locate that little board somewhere under it. (it's good to hold the mechanism, to not have to waste time reassembling some parts of it when you let it split to parts.. try to find someone to hold it for that time or maybe use some clamp, like these for woodworkers) Then fix these mentioned connections on that board (don't waste your time examining how they look and trying to find the break on them. You'll probably won't, such are too small to recognize them easily, just solder wires to connect the points which are originally connected with these lines, then put it back, assemble with the mechanism and that should be it.

The problem with shifting into reverse may just be your unit.... I've played with the G27 and G29 shifters, and in both of the units that I played with went into reverse completely fine. I actually modded my G27 shifter by adding some velcro to the inside where the shift mechinism is that result in better feel when you shift and reduced noise of the stick hitting the walls on the inside.
