Photography hardware & software is constantly evolving. I very much enjoy the continued improvements in hardware (cameras and lenses), this has significantly improved our ability to realistically capture the world around us, however, what is happening on the software front, particularly with photo editing... I'm a little more skeptical.

With today's software solution we can distort reality, and make the impossible possible with the click of a button.
What does this mean for the future of photography? To stand out, we no longer need to wake up at 4:30 AM to catch the morning golden hour... it just requires the click of a button.

I edit 99% of my pictures in Lightroom. This generally involves fixing the exposure, contrast, highlight certain features (all in lightroom), and some minor colour-grading... the essence of the photograph is not lost, rather enhanced. With these new tools, we are distorting reality and creating false expectations.

Again, what does this mean for the future of photography?

If we can't distinguish real from fake, we are creating false expectations and even personal experiences/memories.

I am not against using these tools, but it should be clearly stated if the sky is real or fake. This is no longer photography (photography = Greek for drawing with light). More than ever before, I think it is important we post before and after shots (as you have done).
