The lower chromatic note on the downbeat before a scale note is the fastest way to make your playing sounds jazzy, imo

I start with the chromatic leading note as an eighth note, followed by the triad played as an eighth note triplet. Very Charlie Parker like rhythm. I’m sure you taught me to do that!

Also I do this in position and also laterally up the fretboard which helps me not get stuck in the traditional shapes. Just figured I’d throw my two cents in there

I used to practice horizontally along the neck too. I find that staying on a box makes me just stay there, probably a personal thing but doing horizontal along the neck helped me.
