The alicorn of protection seems pretty fitting you might think but if you go back to the beginning you might remember Sawtooth saying something about all the alicorns being relationships and protecting aint a relationship. So ehat about brotherhood/ older brotherhood for twilight. But then we’re missing younger brotherhood so it doesn’t fit and we already ruled out romance and parenthood with cadence so maybe it is protection but in a different way. The protection of those you care about and those who care for you. Not strength but well not to sound cliche…love.

Shining Armor being an alicorn seems perfect and honestly in my opinion an huge missed opportunity. Since Shining Armor’s sister, wife, & daughter are alicorns, I feel that a perfect opportunity to do so was maybe after he became prince of the Crystal Empire in the first episode of season 3 “The Crystal Empire” since he and Cadence became the rulers there, i felt that could’ve been a perfect time for Shining Armor to become an alicorn similar of what happened to Twilight in the season 3 finale “Magical Mystery Cure”. That way he could be like his family that are in alicorn royalties Twilight princess of friendship, Cadence princess of love, & Flurry Heart princess of light, i wonder what alicorn title Shining Armor would have.

So yeah, it wouldn't make sense for him to also represent romantic love, but he could also represent the love for one's child, since just like how the older sibling's love for the younger and the younger sibling's love for the older is different, so is a father's and mother's love different (that is not to say that one loves their child more than the other, but that the relationship between Cadence and Flurry is not the same as between Shining and Flurry).

My thought was the correlation not between shining and cadence but twilight and cadence. Thanks to shinings marriage it makes them sisters. It goes from sun and moon to love n light and friendship. Two qualities that go hand in hand and u can’t have one without the other . With the addition of flurry it reflects the previous hierarchy if u ask me . Before twilight there were 3 princesses. Twilight was always meant to replace celestia, cadence takes Luna’s position and then flurry takes cadence’s former position keeping the balance. What if the life span of an alicorn was dependent on how long they decide or able to serve.. would the princess of friendship and love be able to continue serving after their losses- hmm
