Providing access to the source code now would be the bare minimum they could do and allowing us to take over where they left off

Literally the best thing about this game was the cinematics. Which is really really sad 😔

It sucks when game development is dictated by powerful people who don't love games or factors unrelated to games.

Just makes me fucking sad. I was so keen to do interstellar travel in an engine without the jank. I had high hopes that just given enough time they'd keep working at it and fix all the issues and turn it around just like how KSP started off pretty janky and

Oh God, could you imagine Paradox getting the KSP IP? DLC abound! "Want one robotic part? $1.99!"

Tbh, after the KSP2 debacle, the KSP IP is probably worth peanuts. Ain't noway a 3rd game is met by the same hype train that happened after KSP2 announcement

the more we learn about this situation, the worst it gets 😥

There are a lot of people, such as myself and nearly a dozen teams that I know of, working on some sort of space flight simulation game as a spiritual successor to KSP or inspired by it. I don't see a way forward for the IP sadly, not for the amount of money it would take to buy and produce. Something the original KSP1 creator said in an interview really hit home for me, trying to achieve 1:1 feature parity in KSP2 was a recipe for failure. That combined with being forced to use the same codebase and game engine probably doomed it from the start. Management didn't help either. Space flight simulation games have a bright future ahead, but I don't think KSP will be there in the form we may have hoped. That said, long live KSP(1)!

The update removed the Private Division launcher. This probably means either KSP2 is being sold separately, or Private Division is being closed entirely

Restarted in KSP1 yesterday. Haven't played either almost a year.
Backed Blackrack for his volumetric clouds, plus Parallax & Scatterer and some other visual mods.
By the Kraken is it impressive visually. I didn't expect the thunderstorms! I kept stopping just to admire the view.

I see no reason for KSP2 at this point.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a refactored code base, but hey, that wasn't actually happening with KSP2, and is almost certainly not going to get funding now when there's basically 0 additional people that are going to purchase KSP2.

Looking at rest of KSP2 original published roadmap
Science, already in KSP1
Colonies, Would be nice to be official, but can do with mods.
Interstellar/Exploration, included Kcalbeloh System in my mods.
Multiplayer. This is potentially the only real lose. Going to try LunaMultiplyer with my son.

The future for me includes I'm never giving money to any of the companies or people involved with this thing again. I also basically will never spend money on an early release game like that.

in theory, harvester might be interested to buy the rights, if the price is low enough. he practically is the one who invented it in the first place.
on the other hand, what is the unique trademarkable thing in KSP. the name of the alien race and the names of the locations. everything else is practically generic.
besides, selling the IP behind KSP2 would also put squad (which still exists) in a weird place.
harvester might not be terribly interested in buying that. yes, he plans to make a new rocket and space game, but why would he specifically need kerbals? make a new alien race, give them blue skin, a name that starts with another letter than K and done.

not sure if this ever crossed their mind, but i think just getting rid of as many bugs as possible, and introducing modding to the game in order for the community to in a sense finish the game themselves with mods, would be a great idea

So glad I didn't prepay AA price for a C tier g̶a̶m̶e̶ sandbox.

TBH I am not sure that the existing studio as it was had the capacity to finish KSP2 to an enjoyable state within the decade. Of course there's a multitude of internal and external reasons that was the case.

What happens next is other scifi games no one cares about will use the song from the ksp2 trailer in their trailers and make me sad everytime I here it😢

Honestly all these major companies need to just get flashed out of existance. All these once great game companies have been reduced to greedy scumbags who ruin anything they touch or create.

Games being abandoned left and right, new patches releasing more bugs than they fix, overpriced DLCs going rampant, overpriced battlepasses that expect you to make it your job to grind through or shell out a few paychecks to skip... the list goes on.

All these AAA game studios are basically becoming a name for what not to buy. Buy AAA game to throw away money, buy indie to actually get a game that is cared about.

if they are going to shitcan the project, then give me my money back.

What if we the KSP community chip in and buy KSP? And where we all own it, possibly open source it?

hate to say this, but the more time goes on, the happier I am that I didn't buy KSP2
