You’ve successfully defeated an army when all their boxes pop.

This is actually great!! Imagine that you are in an emergency and you need a quick tip for a battle strategy. It comes very handy😆

Epaminondas a true genius who changed strategical thinking. Frederic II. King of Prussia adapted the ancient idea and used it in several battles in the wars against Habsburg Monarchy, calling the "Oblique Order" "Schiefe Schlachtordnung". So many theorys and ideas still in use in modern times are coming from the greeks and the romans.

There is also a huge downside to this strategy. If the movement of troops were to be noticed by the opposing army, they could also easily break through the weakened flank with a faster charge and surround the army using the oblique order.

Fun fact: Spartans rarely fought wars, due to the fact they had a massive amounts of slaves the government and people were afraid they'd rise up in revolt, they usually kept them at home, and they were hesitant to help the rest of the Greeks fight the Persians, because they thought while their forces were away the country (or what was considered one for the time) would fall to revolution

For those who complain: I too am not a fan of shorts, but keep in mind YouTube doesn't like channels which don't do shorts. For Kings and Generals, shorts will help them getting more recommended and not being relegated by YouTube. It's the sad truth :/ (And this short was still nice, but I'm sure K&G would be better off if they didn't need to do them and could concentrate on their normal videos.)

This was one of the coolest shorts I’ve seen on YouTube, Please keep these up! A perfect little history bite to start my day!

The fact that they beat the Spartans is impressive enough. If I was a soldier, being told I would have to fight a vaunted foe would have given me the jitters.

It's kind of amazing to learn how 'little' changes in strategy can make the very different outcome of the battle. Nice video! 👍

Thebes vs Sparta is a classic example of Brains vs Brawn

I really like this format! Historical context, definition of the tactic, example of implementation. It's a very "snackable" formula and I hope it nets you guys many YouTube points

I’m definitely trying this in total war later.

I think the Spartans had their best soldiers on the right flank if I’m not mistaken so it’s impressive that the sacred band was able to break through

Honestly I wouldn't sweat it this is really neat short you have done. Really informal

Not to mention in phalanx formations the left flank would be stronger than the right one, since most soldiers are right handed

Can you make a video about the battle of Didgori and David the Builder? The Battle of Didgori was fought between the armies of the Kingdom of Georgia and the Great Seljuq Empire
