For most of history fat storage was essential for survival. Most wouldn’t be able to afford not moving constantly or to eat too much. You don’t want to lose weight for no reason and the body needs to keep energy for later.
Some ethnic groups have even genetics that facilitate fat storage.

New sedentary lifestyle and ultra-processed, ultra-caloric foods and over eating/ constant snacking are what makes the difference.

A lot of people think that once you've lost the weight, you don't have to worry about it coming back, which isn't true. Losing the weight is only the first step. It's a commitment to keep the weight off.

Exercise makes me feel better but didn't help with weight loss, but cutting calories was what helped me drop and keep off over 50 lbs. In some cases, we simply eat too much for our activity level.

I’ve lost 75lbs and have kept it off. I tell people is eat more protein and fiber with every meal, drink more water, start walking a little bit each day, some form of resistance training 2-4 times a week, etc. Building muscle helps burn fat, and builds longevity. Start off with baby steps, and be patient. That’s the key to longevity and sustainability.

What really sucks, you lose all the weight and then are left with loose skin, which no one talks about. I was overweight my whole childhood (can't control what your parents feed you) and as a young adult lost 60lbs. My lower stomach looks like someone who's postpartum. It sucks ass. Why implementing good eating habits and health to your children is so important, to prevent the need for drastic weight loss down the line.

I started my weight loss journey at the beginning of the year. I have lost 40 lbs so far, but it's like I've come to a full stop. It really can be difficult especially when you dont know exactly what you are doing wrong.

My experience is that I found it hard to admit to myself that I had a problem. Even when I was eating better than my worst, I was still overeating and in complete denial about it, I convinced myself that I was eating a normal amount. When you've got so used to eating 2.5-3k calories a day without fail, going down to 2k, which is a pretty normal amount, makes you feel so hungry all the time. The headaches, the weakness, the tiredness, the rumbling stomach, it's all non-stop for weeks. Your body does not make it easy when you've been so used to engorging yourself, but you can't give in. In a way it becomes harder once you get used to it, because you're not being constantly reminded by your body that you're doing great, and you can start to slip without noticing.

Best of luck to everyone that's trying to lose weight, I'm down almost 30kg from a couple of years ago and still going. You got this!

This brought me some comfort. It is really hard, and that can suck but is also a survival mechanism we evolved to have, but not impossible!

That's because we evolved to overeat when food is plentiful so that we had excess weight to live off of during lean times.

We don't have a weight losing problem, we have a food quality and eating habits problem.

Given how many people think that it's as easy as [blank] to lose weight and that fat people just want to whine or have no impulse control, it's nice to hear someone say "it's not easy".
I get discouraged when I do my best and see little to no results.

Yeah. We were practically bears in early civilization. Hunt and gather during the warm months. Get fat and eat our stored food in the winter months.

We haven't evolved much past that. We still put on winter weight. We're not meant to lose weight. However, living in a world where we do have constant access to food just throws off our biology. It's hard for us to lose weight if we're eating every day.

It took me decades to find something that worked. I have had PCOS since I was 14. It's a great feeling when you lose the weight.

The body adapts. If you live a sedentary life style and overeat you will be overweight.

It’s easy in theory (have a calorie deficit) but in reality (outside factors such as advertising, economics etc) it’s been artificially made harder. Some strong mental determination is needed to get through the years of condition for McDonald’s and junk food

Human physiology was also not set up to eat processed foods every day

I think that trauma should be considered much more related to weight loss. In the past I couldn't loose weight, something inside of me always seemed to sabotage it. After working through things, it changed.

I’m currently on a weights journey myself. i was 316lbs in July down to 267lbs. I think the hardest part of losing weight is developing new habits… once your habits are set then the rest is smooth sailing

you have to confront yourself and be prepared to scrutinise your habits.

Losing weight isn’t hard
Staying committed and consistent everyday is what’s hard
