Armageddon - Opening Scene

Loved it since I saw it for the first time. Finally the Blu-ray of Armageddon is out, and I'm uploading the introduction on Youtube for everyone to enjoy.

This was my favorite scene when I was a kid. I used to rewind the tape over and over.
This makes me think about the trillions of creatures that used to live on the Earth, that struggled, lived, and died, before I was ever even born.

l CANNOT believe it's been twenty years since I went to see this in the theater. The scene when Bruce Willis said good-bye to his daughter before sacrificing himself to save the planet had me sobbing as much as Titanic did earlier that year.

This scene, narrated by the late Charlton Heston, always brings a tear to my eye. Does anyone else realize that if this hadn't happened, the dinosaurs would still be the lords of this planet to this very day. That asteroid destroyed the Mesozoic World and conceived our appearance and future dominance right there. It is bittersweet when you realize how amazing the dinosaurs were. Had that space garbage been an hour later or earlier and hit the moon, we would not be here today.

I can't believe this film has a bad rep, yeah it's goofy but it's entertaining as hell! And in today's world of cinema, this is still a great film by those standards

0:03-0:18 LOVE that music. Automatically makes me think of the Latin phrase “Ad Astra per aspera” and the assurance that this movie promises an escapist adventure on a grand scope and scale, which it certainly delivers on.
