gotta love how the meteors have the entire surface of the earth of 200 million square miles but manage to always hit only major american and european cities... literally one in a million shot...

There is always one spectacular effect of meteors hitting earth that film makers consistently miss. At 0:01 those boys and anyone in the wider vicinity would be long incinerated by the meteor before they even see it. The meteor hits with a speed of around 26.000 km/h. The air in front of that meteor is massively compressed and compressed air gets very, very hot. To around 3000°C.

This scene was such an afterthought. Like, it LITERALLY wiped out Paris and then, “OK, next scene!” LOL

I can hear the rest of France cheering in the background.

Meteor: I am sick of crashing on the american cities in every catastrophic movie, I choose somewhere in Europe this time...

Fun fact about this scene, the shockwave along with the rising dirt is all real. They set some sand on a table, set a firecracker in the middle of it and the resulting shockwave(and explosion) was caught with a camera that recorded at a super high framerate. The moment the meteor hits in the movie is the firecracker going off, everything after that one frame is all CGI. I remember seeing it on Youtube if I remember correctly several years ago. I may be wrong about some things there but definitely go and see if you can find it. It's really cool how they did this one scene that was only seconds.

I don’t care about the poor ratings some critics gave this movie. To me it’s one of the most epic, and legendary films of all time, & Bruce Willis nailed his roll as “All Go, No Quit, ” Harry Stamper.

I love how the kids play with the 2CV suspensions at the beginning as a French I must say this is not cliché at all and completely legit we love to do this all day everyday.

After Chelyabinsk we all know that this event will be brighter than thousand suns.

The only thing that bugs me is that people think you'll be able to see it coming through the atmosphere... Those rocks travels at tens of thousands of mph it would be a flash of light and then boom.
kevinmauidude
Two things: 1) I wanted someone to shout "Sacre bleu!" 2) I wanted the gargoyle, right at the last second, to turn to camera with a shocked expression. :)

POV: Paris just finished its Olympics opening ceremonies

As far as I know the whole scene should be much brighter 'cause the meteor would ignite the atmosphere, if I'm not mistaken.

“Ilsa, we’ll always have….” Crap never mind.

First few shots, the meteor is travelling horizontally, then in the final shot, it's coming in at a huge angle.

I can just imagine seeing that passing overhead and willing the momentum to take it further and further away...

Meteor to HQ: Should I do a flyover before impact?
