THIS WILL NOT WORK MORE THAN 45 MINUTES …
I made one of these using a cooler that was the biggest one I could fit on the floor of my company, car, and a blower motor from a auto salvage yard because it would run on 12 V plugged into the cigarette lighter socket
I had an unlimited amount of ice available to meet at work because they had two commercial size icemakers for the road cruise to fill up their ice chests in the mornings during the hot weather, and us meter readers. There were 131 of us so they had a lot of ice available.
I am honored the blower motor that I got from a salvage yard to a piece of plywood that fit perfectly on the ice chest that I bought. I put two holes in it, one blowing air into the ice, and one to let the cold air come out the opposite side of the lid.
on a fairly warm day about 85° I went to work with a full chest of ice and I plugged in the blower motor, mounted to the top of the ice chest and I headed out for my route reading meters that day I did this because the company cars were basic plain vanilla models that did not have radios or air-conditioning..
about 45 minutes into my route. I could hear water sloshing around inside the ice chest. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but less than an hour into my ride. When I would go around corners, I could see water coming out through that the lid. I pulled over and looked inside the chest. All of the ice was melted in less than an hour, I had about 50 pounds of ice in there. This thing will work for about an hour if you have 50 pounds of ice, but no longer..
an unwanted result of using ice to cool my company car down, I increased the humidity level to tropic levels, it was just like blowing a hairdryer onto the ice with the heat on low in the blower on high..
Oh sure this thing will work for about 45 minutes to an hour. The hotter it is the faster the ice will melt and you will be in a tropical feeling room with the humidity from that ice melting. Don’t waste your money or your time making one of these. Yes, it works, but the ice melts faster than you can keep up with.
