How do you choose the right recessed lights for your new home construction? or your remodel? There are thousands of choices for fixtures for your lighting layout and knowing what to look for will help you create a lighting plan like a designer!

Budgeting for lighting is usually overlooked or underestimated. The cost of recessed fixtures for your lighting layout can easily exceed allowances in your contractors bids. So, I break it down, what costs what!

I go through the features and function you need will help to narrow your design choices for a well lit home, so you'll know what's important for YOU!

Electricians may specify, but do they really know what you need and want for you new home? No. Trust me, you need to be involved in decisions for materials specified for your new build or renovation, especially lighting!

Best,
Liz

We purchased land with a farmhouse. Sadly, it has vaulted ceilings where the kitchen is NOT centered under the middle of the vaulted ceiling. They had no overhead lights! Trying to figure out out how to light up this kitchen. I’m going to watch every video you have to hopefully find some solution. Keep up with the great info!

For vaulted ceiling in a dinning room, I'll have a chandelier in the middle where the table goes, but for the lights in the drywall ceiling around it, they will be slanted. Do I need them to angle and point down, or can they point with the ceiling slope?

You're a wealth of information, thank you! Now, seeing my husband somehow put these things through the expensive tin ceiling tiles we bought (his idea) will probably be the thing that sends me over the edge. 😖🤣 Might have to switch to just one bigger overhead light... we really don't know what we're doing! (We do have undercab and task lighting planned though!)

Watched a few of your videos and really enjoyed them, great personality, so fun! I need to change 3 pendant lights over kitchen bar and have 4 older recessed waffle kitchen lights. I'm thinking it may be good to have all 7 of them matching with new recessed lights. My brain is fried trying to find the right lights and I don't want to have regret! Electrician suggested halo recessed for old waffles and halo surface for bar pendant from HD. Do you have a any suggestions? Could you suggest lights you would recommend. I would pay 50/55 per light. Thanks for considering my question and posting great content!

Great info, thanks. Do any of these have light that changes color temp with a dimmer? For example bright white when cranked up but a warm white when dimmed.

Mi Lady, I was wondering if you could tell me which non-builder grade halogen recessed lighting options are there you would suggest to people who just don't like LEDs and the issues with them etc? Thanks! x

Very helpful information! Ty! My husband installed wafer lights instead of recessed lights and the entire first floor lighting is SO OFF! Who am I supposed to hire to do the job the correct way? Even if we need to shelve out the $$$. Lighting makes the biggest difference and I need help!

Those regressed lights, were they canless? Any recommendations for canless LED lights?

When I renovated my house 30 years ago I installed commercial grease 6-in Lightolier brand cans that are designed to be both downlight and wall wash simultaneously. They are commercial lights and I've never seen anything else like them. I installed more than 25 of them. They had a parabolic reflector with a hole cut out of one side and another more spherical reflector in the rough in. So like a reflected both down and to the side. It was designed for A19 or A21 bulbs. Now that tungsten bulbs have become difficult to get I need to change the lights. Contemporary A19/21 LED bulbs do not disperse the light properly in the parabolic reflector. They point almost all their lights straight down and I don't get the beautiful lighting effect I once had. What can I replace these with. I'm willing to use a retrofit or to yank the old fixture out and put a whole new fixture in. Any ideas or recommendations?
