My grandfather was in D day he died recently. He was almost 100 years old. He didn’t talk much about that but everybody in the family just knew that’s what he went through. He looked extremely good for 90 years old absolutely beautiful soul. I wish that I was old enough to appreciate and talk to him more.

My dad was 82nd Airborne paratrooper. Dropped Nite before june 6. "We had to blow up the bridges so the 'gerries, ' couldn't retreat." So glad I asked him 6 weeks before he died "what did you do in the Army dad?". Dad kept a 38 caliber handgun in his nitestand. It had a wood grip. He said he had it in the Army. Us kids would look at it once in a while. Thank you for your service and bravery dad. RIP 🌹❤️🇺🇸

My grandfather had a bazooka. After he went over the side of the boat he discarded everything he could before he sank. He said poor bastards didn't even know how to swim. They were no where near the shore when the Higgins boat dropped the ramp. The Germans were shelling them like crazy. His first day of combat 6-6-44 H hour first wave of D day.

Imagine running straight into a fortified beach that's blasting machineguns at you.

I used to go fishing with a guy that was in the first wave on D-Day. He said he lost a lot of friends that day. He died about 20 years ago. Nice man.

My grandad was in the 30th infantry 2nd armoured battalion on D-Day and he was the Gunner in a M4A2E8 HVSS Sherman tank. He died in 2013.

The ammo has a tapper to its outline. That means an 8 shot enbloc clip. So he's going to carry an m1 Garand.

I was watching this and thinking, "This guy is just a kid!"... then remembered that a LOT of the guys walking down those ramps were probably 18-20 year olds.
