They should have taught us all this in school 😭. The CALM (Career and Life Management) highschool class in Alberta never covered this stuff.

You probably could swing that rent with a part-time job, just as long as you never took a sick day and were also working a full-time job.

This hurts my heart for my kids. I had a hard time in Edmonton at at $300/mo when I graduated HS. My kids could never afford what rent is now, and there is NO cap for landlords to raise the rent in AB. 😢

In Denmark and Hungary the deposit ir more likely to be 2-3 months of rent + you also might have to pay 2-3 months of rent in advance.

In Denmark you also loose most of your deposit - this is the main reason why I can’t afford to move😅

Lmao the rent is never just the rent it starts at 1650 then the apartment adds another 100-200 in fees like trash valet, parking, parcel locker, amenities, etc 🙄 then you get to add all the fun stuff on top of it like utilities, renter’s insurance, wifi, etc

Here’s a tip
If you’re one person, living alone, wash your clothes in a plastic tub in the bathtub

It actually goes by a lot faster and easier than you think and saves you a ton of money
You only need to go to the laundromat for your bedsheets

I miss when my apartment was in the $600s in 2016. Now it's in the $1100s in 2024.

lol, i got an apartment for 1525 in downtown Edmonton. 2 beds and 2 bathroom with laundry attached. It’s totally doable with a roommate.

Landlords cannot legally require a security deposit in Ontario. But you need first and last months rent.

The best financial advice i've ever gotten is to give up on canada and move to America. The bar is so much fcking lower. I have my own house & car. If i was still trying to make it in Canada i'd be in my parents spare bedroom :(
