5. It’s a corny one, but Know that change is ok. You are going to experience a lot of things for the first time. You might have no grocery money one week, you might be extremely lonely the next. All of these things are normal and happen to the most of us. You will be fine I promise.

No tip, wishing everyone the best who is looking forward to moving out! some of us don’t have the luxury to save up because of a toxic environment. ❤️ you’re doing a good job

NEVER RUSH! LOOK INTO AT LEAST 25 PLACES IN THAT AREA BEFORE YOU PICK! you want to make sure youre getting a fair price, getting a generous amount of space, and make sure that your landlord is easy to work with! most place will try to get you to act with urgency and rush and act like the place wont be there in a day or two....always beware of the ones that try to get you in super fast! the ones that are a good deal wont feel the need to get you in before you change your mind! good luck guys and gals!

#6 When considering location, check it out with a friend at night time. It’s amazing how sketchy some places become at night. Even in nicer hoods. Really important if u have teenagers living/visiting.

#5 make sure some utilities are included in the rent, that way you don’t have to worry about paying some bills because the few utilities are covered for it in the rent!

#5 DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO MOVE IN WITH YOU!!! No matter how sad their story is, no matter how well you think you know them, no matter how in love you are with them, etc. do not allow anyone to move into your place!

#5. When first moving in, you don’t need to own a lot of new stuff in regards to furniture. People give a lot of their stuff away for free online. Get your basic stuff there, update with time. MAYBE after time passes you even realize you don’t need much to live comfortably ✨💯

#5 if you’re still a student, apply for a student credit card. This allows you to build your credit for when you start looking for apartments, and the student card allows for more leniency with late payments and usually has little to NO interest rate.

Side note, make sure to keep your credit card utilization low each month - that raises credit.

Think of necessities you cannot function properly without for two weeks such as food. The first few weeks will be hard and money will probably be tight so have food, water, sanitary pads, blankets, clean clothes, ect..
It's also okay to be cheap with some things until everything settles down. You may have to use single use cups, utensils, and plates or those super cheap and flimsy plates from Target and Walmart. It's okay. Nobody is going to think less of you for getting by. You'll get everything figured out, it just may take some time.

crime rate isn’t super helpful to determine the “goodness” of an area. do research into what crimes happen most and who they happen against. a single number won’t tell the entire story.
