The majority of extra virgin olive oil on the grocery store is fake! That means the oil rancid, cut with cheaper oils, and does not meet the requirements to be extra virgin olive oil. Stick with single origin extra virgin olive oil from a trusted source, I would only buy a handful of olive oil brands to cook with, most of them are talked about in this video. Hope you find this helpful!

Companies that manufacture, distribute and sell rancid olive oil cut with either soy, corn, peanut or canola oil, richly deserve to be sued into bankruptcy.

Wow,
May God help us. Almost all cooking ingredients have been adulterated these days all in the name of profit.

My father worked in an Italian Olive oil bottling plant in California in the early 1960's and they were mixing olive oil from Italy with cotton seed oil from the southern U.S. The mixing was done in secrecy by a small night shift crew. He use to say "Who knows what was mixed into it before it came to the U.S." I was raised with stories of what a crooked business it was.
If you swallow a teaspoon of olive oil the pure good quality oil will tingle in your throat. I learned this simple trick in Italy from an olive farmer. The Olive oil business in Italy back then (80s) was controlled by the mafia crime families and was crooked through and through. Many "European olives" in that time were coming in from other parts of the world and were labeled as" European".

Thanks for doing the legwork and sharing! 😊I’m so upset that I’ve been using fake garbage olive oil. The amount of deception is wild in the food industry. 😡

Brands of real EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) mentioned in the video;
1. Kirkland (Costco's personal brand) 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil
2. Trader Joe's Premium 100% Greek Kalamata extra virgin olive oil
3. California Olive Ranch 100% California extra virgin olive oil (available at most mega-marts/grocery stores)
4. Lucini extra virgin olive oil
He recommends the above EVOOs for cooking. For finishing, he recommends:
5. Casa D Hualdo robust extra virgin olive oil [from Spain]

I lived in Greece for 6 years, and I tasted the best olive oil ever. They would make it right in my town.

Thank you for this!!! I’m so tired of tv chefs saying “ use a good olive oil” when most people don’t know how to choose a “ good” olive oil in the U. S.!!

In uk it’s illegal to call it extra virgin olive oil if it has been cut with other oils

Lol, I love it when the FDA doesn't have time....to do their job.

Edit: So quite a few individuals have stated that the FDA isn't given the proper funding to do their task efficiently which, if true, means that Americans seriously need to do something about their government; this is affecting everything from life-expectancy to healthcare costs.

It’s ❤️breaking to know that people do this to others.

It's worrisome to think which other products out there are not what they seem!

Wow, it’s like you have to make everything yourself in order to know and trust what you are eating. That’s incredibly sad. 😥 I’m also one of those people who believe that all manufacturers should be held accountable for their products through the end of its life… meaning they are responsible for not only the product but the disposal of the container it comes in. 🧐

Thank you for educating me on evoo. I had no idea we were being bamboozled, though I am not really surprised. So nice how Costco is coming through for us yet again.

My tour guide in Granada, Spain said once I have had olive oil there I would know the difference. He said what we get in America has been cut so many times that there's no telling what we are getting. I got olive oil from Aldi's in Spain and I also got some at the airport before leaving. He was right!! I could tell a HUGE difference! Thank you so much because I am almost out!

I noticed the olive oil from costco was really good, and was surprised because it came in a plastic bottle. Been buying it only for years now because I've been let down by oil in fancy bottles. Very relieved, and a little proud that I made the right decision just based on taste.

Absolutely agree with you! As a producer of extra virgin olive oil in Southern Italy, we've been cultivating over 2000 olive trees for generations. We take pride in our oil, which is exclusively from the olives we grow and carefully tend to. The difference in quality between our oil and the diluted versions on many store shelves is simply staggering.

Buying directly from a trusted producer or source not only supports local businesses but also guarantees the purity of the olive oil. It's crucial for consumers to understand this. Thanks for your insightful comment and for shedding light on the importance of single-origin olive oil. Happy cooking

There’s almost no way for the average consumer like me to know which olive oil to use so I’m happy somebody is finally exposing rancid olive oil being sold as the good stuff. It’s so frustrating because it’s not like you are allowed to taste test it before you buy it. So I stick to cooking with butter and crisco. Maybe now things can change so I will be able to cook with olive oil that doesn’t taste rancid
