What's the deal with carbs? Are they good for you or bad for you? I have something surprising to say that might go against everything you’ve heard.

Not sure what the shock is never seen a low carb plan that didn't include all low glycemic veggies, or one that included fiber as net carb intake.

I don't entirely know why atkins is considered to be so bizarre. Yes you eat more fat but otherwise it seems to me to be really similar to other traditional diets. On traditional diets you would avoid all the junk like donuts, candy, desserts, soda, chips, pasta and you would probably have a plate that looked something like this...a meat and a veggie. Same as Atkins. Basically most diets seem to say the same thing...avoid processed unnatural junk foods and eat only things you can kill or grow.

This is the most common sense thing I've heard in a long time!

I got very sick after 5+ years on the low carb/keto HIGH saturated fat diet. Been whole plant foods now for a few months and hopefully things can change, all the research says they can.

I wouldn't call non-starchy vegetables carbs since they are not high in carbs. They are mainly high in fiber and nutrients

Fiber carbs don't get turned into glucose therefore you can eat your fill of low glycemic foods ESPECIALLY veggies

Dr. McDougall, in The Starch Solution, says we should eats lots of high quality carbs, and potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, wheat, oats, etc. He says you can cure Type 2 Diabetes with his diet. I am eating this way, and I feel great.

I’ve been doing Carb Cycling (1 day high carb-low fat and 1 day low carb-high fat) for the last 6 months using regular potatoes-sweet potatoes-white rice and oatmeal as my carb sources... I went fron skinny fat body type to a very lean type of body now with serious muscle gains... can you advice more about the carbs I mentioned above?

saccharide. that's the right word instead of "carb" we should really start to use now. so "saccharide" and "fiber". use separate then there will be less confusion.

So I went to the Veterans Affairs Hospital. They said I was pre-diabetic. 6.0 is what that said. They said I need to cut my carbs to 50 or less. Is this healthy?

I have been using the ketos diet for a couple of years. I have lost 100lbs of fat and gained 28lbs of muscle. More energy then i have ever had in my life and I am 40 years old. I eat tons of nuts and veg like broccoli. "slow carbs" are you call them are the way to go. The reason I post this is a local trainer posted this with a link to your video. I hope you aren't actually saying this because Dr. I am living proof you are wrong.

"As I have preached for eons... Carbs... Single most important thing you can EAT. These no carb, low carb/ starvation diets kill metabolisms. ... And ultimately becomes the demise of your loss or gain efforts. "

I don't buy the anti-starch angle; traditional diets are often high in starch. The Okinawan and Japanese diets (circa 1950) are almost all sweet potato and grains. Too many historical examples to list... Just stick to pre-industrialized foods?

I think Dr John McDougall will disagree with the potato comment. As will Pam Popper. The rest of what you say is refreshing, humans need good carbs. I eat loads of white potato now and after years of struggling with my weight, I've lost it and gained so much energy I run 7k at least I times a week and do weights 3 times a week (I'm 46) Sorry but potatoes are the key for me- we were designed to eat starch.
