Here is an easy way to make refried beans. These refried beans are creamy with crispy edges in the pan, just like my grandma made them. Check out my Charro beans recipe and Charros Beans in the Slow Cooker.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups of a Charro beans
2 to 3 tbls lard (oil or shortening work just fine)

Reminds me of when I was younger. Grandma would make refried beans with the bacon grease plus throw down with some homemade tortillas!

I'm so glad that 4 years later I can go make some refried beans using your recipe. Glad I used the lard (Crisco has a non-gmo) because it doesn't add any other flavor to the beans. TYFS (thank you for sharing) 👍

If you look up 'refried beans from scratch', you find SOO many people trying to out-do and over-do refried of which is crap! My grandma's is the best refried, ...and she makes it like you, so carry on and keep on cook'n girl, you rock it old school which is the best schooling you can dish for this new cooking generation!

I've just purchased a jar of beef tallow from Walmart, of all places, and I've been wondering how to use it besides sauteeing veggies. Also, I've been wanting a simple refried bean recipe; I had to dig into YouTube archives and here it is! Thank you, Anjelica.

I fry up a couple of strips of bacon and make my pinto's with that or use saved bacon oil. Also, the importance of that crisping of the beans is to caramelize the starch in the beans to bring out the sugar flavor, essentially telling the taste buds of the tongue, "this is high energy food", something we crave. Doing this, you will make refried beans for the ages and something they will come back for more and more. Also, the same act of carmelization happens to corn tortillas when they are heated over an open flame instead of warming on a comal or heated in a microwave. Also do this before using a corn tortilla in tacos or enchiladas. Don't sell the art of cooking short. Love your videos.

I do this with my leftover beans in an enameled cast iron Dutch oven and use an immersion blender. Love that boat motor!
