In this video I'm going to be doing a brief review of Mitja Bonca's Tochigi Racing Ring mod track for Assetto Corsa. This is actually a laser scanned version of the excellent Twin Ring Motegi racing circuit in Japan. Features include:

- 2 layouts: GP (4801m), oval (2493m)
- GP layout is laser scanned
- Pitboxes and start spots: 30 GP layout & 40 oval layout
- dynamic racing groove, dynamic rubbering of white lines and curbs, dynamic marbles on turns
- fully and great working AI on both layouts
- 2 TV cameras for each layout + 1 special camera for camtool app (read more bellow)
- fully supports Content Manager and SOL weather (config files will automatically update if needed via CM)
- Track map and sections indicator
- 3d grass (if using Conent Manager, there is a new type of 3d grass)
- 2 DRS zones on GP layout

My 2 If Turn 10 or Polyphony released a single track at this price they would be slated so badly for it. On the other hand this is very close to how much Rfactor2 sells their tracks for. However that is official DLC for their own game, this is completely unofficial. People can charge what they want as there is no regulation so this sets an interesting precedent.

URD in general has been a little puzzling to me lately. Miro left so they don't do rFactor2 anymore and have been rather quiet in AC in general since the GTEs. Now they are partnering and doing tracks? Idk. Also the term laser scan is used pretty liberally lately. Drone geographical survey isn't the same as a point cloud scan. Hard pass from me, I'm sure it's good tho

There is a debacle on RD about this having “stolen” assets. This thing has been going on for 2 years so the price is somewhat understandable. My biggest awe is that this track has night lighting. More mods need to incorporate this. ESPECIALLY the NASCAR ovals.

Good and nuanced review as always Mike. I will be passing on the track, can't justify 2/3 of the asking price of the ACC Intercontinental trackpack for one track but it looks quality for those that don't mind.

one of the best bait and switch's ever....
2 years of stringing everyone along with updates for it to suddenly be a (expensive) paid mod a few days before release and also now not even having official advertising and names and then to find out that there is heaps of stuff that is ripped jerk move
also now being a paid mod means it will get a lot less (bugger all) in online races.

good video as always. Just went to RaceDept. & Mitja Bonca (if this is the same guy) as for free = 8 tracks (275, 000 + downloads).

I respect modders very much & appreciate their work, mostly because I can't do the same. I do think they should get a compensation of some kind for their work, after all that is what makes a sim racing game so interesting (GTR2, AC, RF2 ...), isn't it a complain about ACC ? (most have 'donation' possibility, how many of us do?)

However if they propose using their work for free I guess they know what they are doing ... certainly not to get rich. (sim racer don't have the same budget)
I believe they can charge what ever they want and the community can decide to buy or not, they are NOT FORCING us, WE DECIDE .. so no reason to complain
- I was a sales representative & one thing I was told by an oldy when I started to work was " nevre forget that if a customer calls to complain about something, it is because he needs you, other wise he doesn't call and goes some where else"

An awesome balanced review Mike, as always... which is why your opinion is so well respected, and rightfully so dude! :)

Personally I don't see what the problem is. Many people have little to no idea about the huge amount of work involved in creating a track. Mitja has previously given away hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours of his work for free. Adria, Oschersleben, Grobnik, Spielberg, Okayama, Chang and more. Each one probably 6 months work or more. (3 years *minimum* for those 6 tracks)
Sure people could send a voluntary donation... I can pretty much guarantee 98% of people sent him nothing. Most people can't even be bothered to leave a review for something they get for free, or even worse... leave a bad review!

For those not wanting this to set a precedent... Leave some of the modders, whose work you've had hours and hours of fun with a nice review, send them a beer or two... IF a larger majority honoured the honour system then that would stay the norm.
