To what you said first,
Yes Reflections just look nice, not always realistic, but especially with bright small light sources it just looks really nice.
and I also noticed many games just looking better at night which I assume is because light is complecated, and prob never perfectly like the real sun light,
so when its night its fewer light so the diffrences between real and gamer are less noticable.

If you want to get into drifting for cheap, check if your local track has a skidpan. It's an area for drifting that they continuously flood with water so that you have very little traction, so your tires don't suffer as much. I spent like 40mins sideway in my MX5/Miata and you wouldn't guess that just by looking at the tires !
