Can you do motion links and joint rotation in animation? Or does it forget all that?

I see that there is automatic easing between the 'keyframes' of the transform, I took a look myself and don't see a way to make the motion linear.
Is there any way to set the easing? For complex interactions like say if you're wanting to show a lifter on a cam where rotation is converted to linear movement, the easing would cause problems.
