Real Car Dealership Scam Stories from Car Buyers. Car dealer scams to avoid. Auto Dealer Scam Stories and Ripoffs. You'd be surprised how often "mistakes" can appear in the paperwork after you've negotiated price with a dealer. Usually, these errors will favor the dealer by a few hundred dollars (big surprise!). It could be the price of the vehicle is wrong, or the trade-in allowance is understated, or perhaps the interest rate on the loan is slightly higher. A scumbag dealer making a profit of $200 on each "mistake" can easily add $20,000 to his bottom line each month. Now you see why these "mistakes" happen so often.

Purchased a Toyota in December the Dealership didn’t give me paperwork, they handed me a USB drive. I don’t have a computer with a USB.

I have been doing my homework in order to buy a nice vehicle for my family. Last month in September 2021 i traveled to Ed Payne Motors and wanted a nice GMC. I took a picture of the the window sticker. I also obtained the VIN. The truck was listed at 63K with an ADM sticker mark up of 15k. I entered the VIN into Edmonds and learned the real value of the truck was 54K. With that i went to the dealership and tried to negotiate. I say tried because the moment they learned i knew the value of the truck, it was sold in 5 minutes. The truck was back at the dealership the next week and was for sale again. I did the same thing and they wanted more for it. Difference is now it had 3 miles more on it. Get where im going with this? The guy wanted to run my credit report from the parking lot. I told him he was stupid for asking my personal info in public. I told him to bring me the invoice price. He reluctantly brought one but it was blank on the vehicle information. I laughed at him and told him that it was a simple task a 2 year old could do. He smiled and walked away. These guys are shady as heck. Look it them and expose them.

Honesty is the number one cause of death among stealerships.

Why does it have to be so difficult to buy new vehicle! Vehicle’s should be sold like kitchen appliances! The only question that should be asked, if whether or not we’re interested on an extended warranty! And that’s it!

here are two traps: went to honda dealer with costco membership. they took $1500 off $25 k civic, but then offered $2, 000 under kbb wholesale on trade. Hyundai dealers tried to bypass the employee plan by offering
wholesale or under on rare elantra sport turbo trade. walked out of those two and got full value at another dealer. check kbb and local bank or credit union BEFORE going to any dealer! 🧐🤔🤗🌞👍

READ EVERY DAMN LINE. If you are pressured to sign, walk away. Dealers don't make much money on new car sales, their creativity is never in your favor!

I used to be a credit analyst for major auto companies were I approved customers for financing . When you buy a car always pay attention to total amount financed on your contract. Never mention what payment you are comfortable with they can put you in a 7 year loan for 40k-50k with a low payment but kill you with back end product warranties and Gap . Always look at the total price of the car plus tax, tag and fees. Negotiate of the total price. Example if you see a car for 35k negotiate off the total price never take any warranty or gap its all Crap you can get that stuff from your auto insurance for way less. If this sounds annoying hire a car broker to do the heavy lifting and walk in or sign or have the car shipped to you.

I despise dealerships. I won’t even walk into one. And I won’t talk to them on the phone, email only.

I had a dealer quote me a price on the highest Ram truck trim they had but to meet that price they tried to switch the paperwork on signing day to a lower trim. Then they told me that I was mistaken. They did not realize I wanted the top trim and the truck would be more expensive. I could not believe it.

When I bought my 18' VW Alltrack SE, the web price showed it marked down from $29, 995 to $26, 995 at a "no haggle" dealership. When I was completing the paperwork, the sales department marked it at $28, 995 instead of $26, 995. Well, I noticed it before signing, and the excuse given was that it was a simple typo mistake. Yeah right. I almost got up and walked out, and probably should have in retrospec.

Great video Dave. Sad that some dealers out there still resort to such shady dealings as the one's you discussed. This is great information especially for first time buyers.
