BEST GOLF IRON FOR 2022? Mizuno Pro 225 vs TaylorMade P790

#mizunopro #225 #p790

I compare possibly the best two irons of 2022, the new Mizuno Pro 225 HMB Iron against the TaylorMade P790 Iron in a head to head battle. Two forged golf irons, hollow construction providing great feel and forgiveness but also delivering power and fast ball speed resulting in hitting the ball further and gaining extra yards.

Just been for my first ever fitting today. Went in with p790 and Cobra in my mind.

Ended up walking out having ordered the 225s. They felt incredible blew the others out of the water for me as a high handicapper. Felt better and more consistent than the 6 other irons I tested today including the big cavity back GI irons I thought I would get.

I've played Mizuno for the last 25 years and they would be my go to.

Just ordered the 225 after months of searching I had/hit everything under the sun, honma tr21x, 790, apex pro, mavrik pro, callaway st pro yadda yadda hands down feel sound performance and consistency was the 225, most of the other irons have flyer problems 7 irons going 175 until they inexplicably go 190...
Happens all the time with hollow irons most fitters just delete that so it doesn't skew the numbers but when it happens when yer playing you don't get to delete that ....😁

What impresses me the most about the 225 is there’s nothing added in the hollow body like all the other ones and yet it sounds and feels better then other hollow body irons . Timeless look as well .

I am looking for irons and falling in love with the Mizuno 225. Everyone has a good review of them.

For me, it's Mizuno every day. Such a classy look and performance to match.

I just went through a extensive iron fitting and i had my ah-ha moment when the Mizuno Pro 225 was put in my hands with Modus 105S shaft. I could not miss a shot! Unbelievable iron that i have on order through the fitter for my specs now. I have been a big Srixon guy for the last 5-6 years and have nothing bad to say about that Brand and i currently game the X5's but was never over the moon about have never played Mizuno until now and cannot wait to get my new irons in!

Thanks Michael. Just finished a 2hr fitting session, and went into the fitting thinking i would be walking out with the 225's. Though I walked out and purchased the 790's. Both clubs are beautiful to look at and the strike off the face was very similar. Though i was gaining an extra 10 - 12 meters off the 790's vs 225's. I also tried PXG's and Titleist (T 200's) they were not in the same league as the 790's or the 225's.

Thanks for the comparison. If possible it would be great if you could do a comparison between the 225 and the JPX 921 forged when it comes to performance and forgiveness. I’m an 8/mid handicapper.

I’m open to either I hit the 790’s and the feel and forgiveness coupled with dispersion will be tough to beat. The dispersion for me was much tighter than the Apex irons. I’ve got an iron fitting scheduled with TXG in April so both will be tried, can’t wait

Hi Michael and hello from Arizona. Excellent video. I was seriously considering the Hot Metal Pros but now I am thinking the 225. Never a doubt . . .Mizuno.

I really thought I would like the P790s until I tried them side by side, I ordered the 225s

Tried both in a fitting as well as many others. 225 came out best for me.

I really like the P790s (I wanted them) and at times I feel it can be easy to be drawn to a specific brand or style of club. For that reason I asked the fitter to not tell me what club he was handing me next. I didn’t look at the back and most of the time I had no idea what I was hitting. Some you kinda can tell but for the most part I had no idea.

Tried both today for 3 hours in a fitting. The Mizono knock spots off the P790 in almost every catergory. Best club Ive hit in my career. (12hc)

Mizuno for me just on the looks they stand out much more for my eye seeing that all my clubs are Taylormade

Great head-to-head, Michael. Interesting. The spin is lower on 225, but so much more consistent. 225 has tighter standards of deviation across the board. The spin wouldn't bother me, anyway, as I'm used to playing stronger-lofted, lower-spinning irons, and don't have any problem holding greens with them. The height is good and the descent angle is just fine with both. At my speeds (quite a bit slower) the spin will be even lower and descent angle will likely be closer to 45º, based on my numbers with several different 7-irons that are right around that 30º in loft. But that's going to work fine. I don't play a lot of super firm greens, and when I do, I tend to just play a spinnier ball. With the 225 carrying further and looking (to my eye) WAAAY better, I can't wait to try them. Probably will wait and pick up a used set in 10 months or so.
