I’ve tried a lot of the new irons for high handicap players, I’m in that category and ended up with Srixon ZX5. I hit them further, straighter and more consistently than “more forgiving” clubs

In my view, high handicap golfers ought to consider blended iron sets. Up to 30 degrees loft use hybrids or hybrid- irons, then from 33 -50 degrees a forgiving cavity back design if they cannot get used to the hybrid-iron look. I have used the Cleveland SGI style irons and could easily game the 6 iron - GW . ( handicap 13/ senior player).

I completely agree about having a better ball striker test irons, it's impossible to draw any conclusions if a person can't make any sort of consistent contact. I also find it interesting that the drop offs on SGI irons are comparable with player's distance irons. I guess there's only so much they can do to help and still have conforming clubs.

Did you test the Wilson Launch Pad or the new launch Pad 2?

Which is better for a mid-handicap of 14 - Taylormade SimMax2 or Calloway Rogue St Max.

Can you do a comparison between the XL Halo, HB turbos, launchpads and the T rails?

Would you say the easiest to hit was the Cleveland XL Launcher?

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Mizuno 921 Hot metal, but they may be more 3.5 game improvement style. I carry the Mizuno FliHi hybrid irons thru 7, and they are super easy. Then player distance irons 8-gap

TXG compared the Sub70 799 to the Halo irons-- same design, similar to better results but cost a lot less. While I understand your grouping category, most consider the D9 and 921 Hot Metals to be Game Improvement irons (Mid Handicap irons).

Hi - currently playing with Ping G400's & am a 28 handicapper ( been playing 6 years ) and often find I feel I have to "hit" them - as for me they feel slightly underweighted and a tad "hollow"- I'm drawn towards the Honma GS - which you give a favourble review . Mainly as they produce a good spin rate - which on my golf course which has fairly unreceptive greens most of the time - this might be an advantage getting more stopping power for shots into green - What I like to feel is the club weight when I swing which helps me not overswing , I've tried friends Sim max2 and whilst I love the weight/ feel and solid strike - I'm concerned they might not be as easy to stop . Distance isn't really an issue - I hit average yardages when I get a clean strike - 150 for a 7 .
Does the Honma have the weighty feel I'm looking for and a solid feeling strike ? I see the shaft is light would this make me "feel" the head more in my swing ?

Reviews on youtube about ultra game improvement irons are made with low handicap. Would someone let the 70 mph swing speed guy review them? It's probably made more sense, right?

Really?!?! You've tested high handicap clubs but deliberately made the decision not to use high handicap golfers? Who cares what a low handicap golfer can do with high handicap clubs when he hits it on or in close proximity to the sweet spot every time? Did it not occur to any of you that the whole point of high handicap irons is to minimize the error for off center hits? Did it not occur to any of you that a club that performs well when hit in the sweet spot may not do so well with an off center hit? Did you just assume every club would offer the same amount of forgiveness when not struck perfectly? The best game improvement iron is going to be the one that performs best when hit off center, which perhaps you are unaware, is what most high handicap players do. At least some pro reviewers deliberately hit off center to show which irons truly are most forgiving.

These are the total opposite of what a high handicapper needs. He needs loft and none of these irons are give it to him. Secondly because their bid and ugly does not they have more forgiveness.
