new guys never be afraid to say you are not sure and ask the veterans for help when of veterans will gladly show you the tricks...new guys buy yourself a good leatherman or gerber multi tool...it will be a lifesaver your whole career...stay away from the know it all guy that thinks he is perfect...we all have that guy we work with now or have worked with....the guy that is quiet and is not constantly bragging is the guy you wanna watch...ive been doing this almost 20 years and ive ran into some great techs that really knew there stuff and learned alot...never stop learning.

Im 32 years old and I started as a maintenance mechanic at the age of 24 and everything you are saying is completely true. Went through an aprenticeship program, kept hustling, learning, and no fear of failing or beign wrong when troubleshooting. Now Im a journeyman making over $40 an hour.

I came in the biz 2.5 years ago. I love it. My boss is dope and knows so much. I have learned so much from him.

This is 100% on point. Working at a distribution warehouse this was exactly what was going on. We had very little training and the people there that did know wouldn’t share their knowledge so all of us new hires decided that anything we learned we would teach each other. We would bring in work gloves, tools and mark our boxes and share everything we needed to get the job done and make sure we all had what we needed and taught anyone that came on our shift the same. People from other shifts caught wind of this and started transferring to our graveyard shift. Because of this we were eventually pushed out. When we left we took a lot of people with us though. Your mentality needs to be infectious everywhere it’s overdue! I’m currently studying to take the Ramsay test for a tech II position and will watch your video on my worst days. I may not have balls as a female but I will grow some and learn from your channel thank you!!!!

I agree 1000% Lex,
I would add that if you are the grounds keeper or a maintenance supervisor, OWN THE JOB!!! Do your dead level best and do the right thing even when no one is watching. Do It Right The First Time and do it to the best of your ability.

My favorite is stepping out of your comfort zone. Mannn I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done that and got laughed at after every single time I did😂 I have so many stories like how it took me 2 hours to change a shut off valve and how a lot of the residents living in that building were mad and kept calling the leasing office talking about “umm I paid my water bill, where’s my water?😐”😂 but I’ve only been doing apartment maintenance for 3 months with no back round experience what so ever and because I put myself out there to get laughed at and be everyone’s clown show, here I am changing toilets, fixing leaking bathtubs, and even doing whole turns by myself. It definitely takes a lot of courage, but you just have to look fear in the eyes and not flinch because the minute you do, it’ll take over your life as much as you let it so don’t let it beat you! Anyways, thanks for sharing your wisdom as always and remember, there are two ways to face the future: with apprehension and anticipation. ~Jim Rohn

Great video man, im an HVAC maintenance technician in training. Im greener then baby shit, I've been on the job for only 2 days and have learned more then I thought I could. I still have much more to learn, im loving it! You cant replicate that feeling being there for someone in some of their most desperate time of need, and being able to see the look on there faces when you fix their problem. Im 26 and I finally feel like I have found what I'm supposed to do. I couldn't be happier

P.S. Im still trying to figure out if its actually you messaging people back on all these comments or some bot. If its actually you, that is pretty impressive and awesome that you respond to everyone

I'm a young buck 23 year old just got promoted to maintenance supervisor in December I've asked questions every chance I got and I've learned a lot since starting in maintenance straight out of high school. I learn new things every day and I've met the know it all techs that dont want you to learn anything from them cause their afraid your gonna take their job so I know exactly what you mean. I'm glad I found your channel I have been binge watching all your vids. By the way I use a saw to clean tub drains out now thanks to you lol

Like your video dude. I just landed a maintenance job at an Arby's fast food joint and I must say that I absolutely love my job. Every day is different and I love the challenges that come my way. Like you mentioned having a good attitude is crucial towards long-term employment, nobody wants some butthole dragging their feet all day making things hard on other folks, nobody. Keeping a strong head on your shoulders makes all the difference..

Maybe I have a less than optimistic view on the industry...I've been a tech for about 4 years, was always mechanically inclined so nothing was really all that difficult to learn. I mean, 90% of the job is common sense..Became a lead after about 8 or 9 months in the industry. And for my last year or so I've been doing leasing part time as well and currently moving to that side of the business. My advice to newcomers is to use maintenance as a slingshot essentially. You get all the basic knowledge with this, use it and go be an electrician or a plumber or carpenter, etc...don't waste more time than you need to hoping for 20 bucks an hour from a dipshit property manager. Use the experience and go to school, go get that 80k a year job. Way too many people get complacent and stagnant in this job.

Thanks for the videos and Encouragement. I'm a newbie industrial maintenance technician and everything is out of my comfort zone. I'm alone on 3rd shift so its intimidating as heck but I'm trying to hang in there and do my best....everything I want in life is on the other side of fear...

100% agree with you ! Always do it right the first time, never promise something you know you can't keep or fulfill, Always be there at the time you say you will be if not call the person and let them know when you will arrive ! If there is 1 thing people hate is receiving you 3 hours later than scheduled appointments!!!
