Iv always felt that a clean look does the job but every interview i have been to has told me i am too clean to be a mechanic… i feel if your good at your job and still clean your a better tech. Makes for less customers coming back angry about grease stains.

If youre an experienced mechanic you can go to any job interview in your literal pajamas and have no problems getting the job.
And if you’re really good at your job, you’re interviewing them anyways

I was so worried it was just me then I came to the comments and now rest assured, 90% of us went to the interview dressed like we were ready to gets cars on the lift. That’s what makes us, us I guess 🫡🥹

Once wore nice slacks and a button down shirt. I never heard the end of it for years. My current shop. I wore my tier 1 carhartt clothes and safety boots. Yes not tier 2 carhartt. The ones with stains and faded colors and holes.

Khakis and a Polo have always worked for me. Never having to wear a tie is one of the perks of the job.

I waked in to a uhaul with greasy jeans and a t-shirt, at the age of 22. 2 years later 26 an hour and started at 20 an hour, just being an mru, 3 spots in all of north FL but I didn't pass hs, I dropped out in the 10 grade. If there's a way, there's a will.

I did my last interview in my current job uniform. If you’re really good you just skip the interview part and just start working the next day

This is like a movie looking Tech, most Tech comes in normal or any Tech uniform from previous shop. 😂
