How to Calculate Analytic Derivatives in ANSYS HFSS

Enter the Derivatives calculation. By using an algorithm during the matrix solution in HFSS, the solver can perturb the fields within the solution space, and extract the variations of the S-parameters to these perturbations. Thus, the engineer is able to extract design sensitivity from ONE simulation as opposed to running extensive parametric sweeps.

The outputs of the Derivatives calculation will show the designer the partial derivative of each S-parameter versus frequency and each variable specified. When a plot is made of all the partial derivatives specified for a model, the engineer can quickly determine which variables cause the most changes to the S-parameters, and can thus down-select the variables to be used for performance-base optimization. In addition to the display of the sensitivity information, the Sequential Non-Linear Programming optimization algorithm uses the design point along with the calculated derivatives to obtain an optimum design faster than if the derivatives are note used.

This function is included with the optional Optimetrics license that is used with the HFSS solver.

Sorry to say it DOES NOT work. After tuning the parameters for optimized S11, when I update and save new values of parameters and re-run the simulation again in a separate file, the S11 is completely different from the tuned S11 plot. I guess, it is due to inherent mathematical approximation. Tuned S11 only provides results based on some mathematical data from sensitivity analysis but a separate re-simulation actually takes all subtelities of full wave simulation. Hence a lot of things are "assumed" in the solver's background during tuning. I am using ANSYS HFSS 16. I do have licensed copy including optimetrics. ANSYS guys please elaborate if you have anything to say

I have designed a microstrip patch antenna but while validation checking I am getting the following error. "Object  "Ground" and "probe" intersect". Could anyone plz help me?

Sir i have tried for my microstrip patch antenna design.But the derivative curve is flat i.e it is on the x axes and value is zero.what is my problem plz give me solution.

it shows derivative is not supported for fast sweep, what to do ?
