The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is a CPU that wants to do everything. For the highest gaming framerates it uses 3D V-Cache while also having 32 threads for creator workloads. But has AMD fixed any of the problems that stopped past X3D processors from dominating? Can the 9950X3D become the best gaming CPU of 2025, beating the 9800X3D?

Your gaming benchmarks graphs are the best in the youtube game.

Turbo Mode in the 80's: SLOW DOWN THE PROCESSOR!!
Turbo Mode Today: CAP THE CORES!!!

I applaud Intel for getting the Core Ultra CPUs working better, but AMD has knocked it out of the park. I'll keep my 9800X3D, but the 9950X3D is a monster for every workload.

It surprises that most people found problems with 7950X3D schedular. As soon as I found out how to set it up properly in the bios the chip worked as intended. However, I am looking forward to the newer chip due to its overclocking capabilities and it may help with video games such as Doom Eternal and Black Ops 6.

Great video and analysis

Getting a 7800x3d at the all time low of $310 might be the luckiest purchase I've ever had.

I mean the if we're being honest the Intel Ultra 9 and 14900k are just barely keeping up with the 7950X 3D when they aren't losing to it and especially with 1% lows

I think you should consider enabling upscaling for some of these 1440p and 4k charts, particularly the RT heavy ones. Nobody with a 5090 is gonna be playing at 40-50fps in any game, realistically.

Thank you for displaying the gaming benchmarks the way you do. It is a really good perspective.

The 9950X3D in eco mode is mind-blowing in terms of performance per watt.

Got mine for 750 bucks in Europe today. So 200 (less than 50%) more compared to the 9800X3D for the additional CCD with 8 regular Zen 5 cores. Also probably the best binning. Not a bad deal in my opinion.

Some people will say that the 9950X3D is not significantly better than the 9950X for workstation tasks. However, the added stability of running memory at the default Jedec speeds is often important on a workstation, and sometimes workstation will use server/ECC memory for even better stability (which also doesn't support EXPO profiles), and it's with these slower but more stable memory configurations where the 9950X3D is likely to actually be a LOT faster in many applications than the non X3D version.

Remember, with the extra L3 cache of X3D Ryzen CPUs, they have always been much less affected by slower memory, whereas all the other Ryzen CPUs tend to run significantly slower if you are not able to use appropriate EXPO presets (or a custom overclock).

I was looking for a good excuse to get rid of my 9800X3D and I found one.

Personally I'd go 1080p for CPU benchmarks with 1% lows and 0.1% lows over averages.

Thanks so much for doing the 4k benches!

Beast of a CPU for the acceptable price. Personally, targetting 9800X3D for gaming, as an upgrade to my 7700 PBO this year.

And this is why i love this guy.

Runs it with a 5090 and shows how well it does with the rest of the competition.

Can't wait to get my 9950x3d tomorrow

Insane stuff. Also, great point made. A lot of traditionally multi-core CPU workloads are now GPU workloads. Rendering, for example. Video editing. A lot of workloads don't need a lot of cores anymore, just a few very fast ones.
Blender for example. No one uses CPU rendering in Blender. But single core speed influences viewport performance.

I wonder if given that this has been achieved, AMD will make the 3d processors the only option eventually. There are way too many models with these two lines being separated already
