Atheism is far more ‘religious’ in nature than most people realise! For more info, see:

It's funny how even the religious realize religion is an insult.

It's as much a religion, as not collecting stamps is a hobby.

Christianity is believing in 1 of the 3, 000 available and recorded gods. Atheism is believing in 1 less.

The Seven Dimensions of Religion - Ninian Smart, Phenomenologist Scholar
1 Ritual/Performative -Symbolic actions done collectively or privately that transform the experience of the world from profane to sacred. May portray/enact a portion of a myth. Includes: holidays, religious meals, rites of passage. The video excluded rituals.
2Narrative/Mythic - Stories (often regarded as revealed) that provide a meaning or explanation for the world as it is or should be. May be found in sacred scripture. Includes: Creation stories, histories of the gods, moral parables, life stories of religious figures or exemplars, stories celebrating a particular people, place, or time. Apart from accepting scientific explanations, which are outside of atheism, there are no atheistic narratives.
3 Experiential/Emotional - A change in consciousness, emotion, sensation, bodily states brought about through religious practices of any sort, including ritual, meditation, music, or social interaction. Includes: dread, guilt, awe, mystery, devotion, love, hate, liberation, ecstasy, inner peace, bliss, conversion. No experience or emotion relates to not being convinced of a god or gods. If atheists only rejected Zeus would that be a religion for everyone alive today?
4 Social/Institutional - Rules for identifying community membership, roles, identities and participation. Includes: Leaders, teachers/gurus, clerical designations/hierarchies, social/racial/political divisions, gender roles, family expectations, educational systems, sects. There are no specified roles for people in the atheist population.
5 Ethical/Legal - Rules about human behavior (often regarded as revealed from supernatural realm). Includes: Purity regulations, including those concerning bodily processes like food, sex, birth, and death; principles for achieving personal and social well-being or harmony; social/familial duties and obligations; provisions for meting out judgment and justice; general morals.
Nope.
6 Doctrinal/Philosophical - Systematic formulation of religious teachings in an intellectually coherent form. May be found in sacred scriptures. Includes: official dogma, theologies, delineations of godly powers/ roles, cosmologies, theodicies (theories of suffering and evil), beliefs about death and the afterlife, reincarnation, the soul, the meaning of life, human nature.
Nothing doctrinal in atheism itself. Some individuals are disposed to question the religious theories espousing their dogma(s).
7 Material/Artistic - Objects or places that symbolize or manifest the sacred or supernatural. May be used in rituals. Includes: Icons, churches, temples, clothing, the human body, animals, instruments, sacred texts, food implements, statuaries, prayer/meditation facilitators. This is a no-brainer, even the stupidest theist should see that this is not a thing that atheism produces.

This video is a sham.

He clearly doesn't know the definition of atheism...

No, just as bald isn't a haircut.
No, by definition.

Smart isn’t that smart because he didn’t consider atheism when he came up with his theory.

I was raised in the athiest religion. Every Sunday we wouldn't go to church together and my mom always reminded my not to say my prayers at night.

There isn’t a single good deed that a religious person can do that an atheist cannot.

Arguing that atheism is a religion is like saying someone who isn't wearing a hat is actually wearing a particular style of hat.

I don't believe in a codified body of rules, assertions and principles called 'atheism', I simply don't have a belief in any god, therefore I can be described as an atheist. It's an absence, not a substitution.

Curious... how can I not be religious?

I love the part where he names the 7 criteria and how they apply tho atheism

As an Athiest l can tell you what it is. The non acceptance of your claim that there is a God or Gods. That's it. To claim that Athiestism is a religion is either being deliberately misleading or straight up lying.

I don't have the heart to tell this guy that if he had been born in Saudi Arabia he wouldn't be speaking English and defending a Christian god

As an atheist I sniff only 8 rituals. 3 with my left nostril, 3 with my right nostril, and 3 with my dowsing rod. Come again, 9 rituals I sense with my atheist antennas ...

I regularly call televangelists late at night to berate them.
Is that a ritual?

I’ll answer your question with question:

If all the religions of the world were to suddenly vanish, what would change for the believers of those religions?
Those believers would lose something, right?

Then, ask yourself what would change for an atheist, if all those religions suddenly vanished?
Not a damn thing.

There’s your “religion”
