My Challenge to Atheists

This is a serious challenge that is not meant to be a slap in the face or a quick moment of owning atheists. I genuinely believe that mockery, sarcasm, and caricaturizing can hinder clear thinking. It's not that all mockery is wrong. It's not that all sarcasm is wrong. But, they can easily become a way of expressing confirmation bias. In the case of Ricky Gervais, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, and a number of other influential atheists, it certainly is. I rarely recognize the version of Christianity that these guys argue against. Yet, these guys have come to formulate or otherwise represent the thinking of countless atheists and agnostics in the current generation, even if those people don't realize their criticisms trace back to that sort of thinking.

Of all the atheist people you could have chosen to criticize for sarcasm, mockery and scoffing—you picked a comedian.

He’s a comedian. He’s gonna be mocking. He’s not trying to debate anyone. Just state his opinion in a way that’s entertaining.

As an Atheist, I don't use sarcasm, I use factual evidence. Stop using a COMEDIAN TO REPRESENT US, WE'RE NOT ALL LIKE THAT.

Argue for your point with logic and reasoning⛔

Difficult to debate against magic without laughing a little.

Sarcasm doesn’t take away from logic. The logic of an argument stays the same with or without sarcasm. It’s just more polite.

"You're being mean! That must mean you don't have an argument!"

Then you’re left with an atheist discussing facts and a Christian pushing their religion.

Guy really said “no funny” to a guy who’s job it is to do funny.

I can't believe this guy doesn't think that atheists have weighed the evidence thoughtfully. That we don't think logically. That we haven't taken the time to understand anything about it. In fact we often turn to sarcasm and scoffing because we have thought so much about it and when we express our thinking to a Christian, we are never listened to in any way that says "hey you got a point, but here's why I think you're wrong about that." Instead we get "if you don't believe and refuse to believe in God, then you are not worth my time." In fact we find your way of thinking about the same subject more irrational than calling water a powdered substance, because Christians can't put together the inconsistencies of what they are even saying when they talk about God!(mainly because they themselves haven't really asked the hard questions or are so delusional that the inconsistencies makes sense to them.)

"I'm a bachelor. I'm not married to around 7, 900, 000, 000 people. My friend Bob isn't married to 7, 899, 999, 999, he's nearly as unmarried as I

The fact that a CHRISTIAN accuses Atheists of "self righteous posturing" is just.... amazing.

Yes, religious people famously are never self righteous

Wait… you want us to not laugh at ridiculous claims with no evidence?
I’m confused because you don’t have any evidence that isn’t faith based. I will happily listen to you and debunk all your claims due to lack of evidence, due to lack of being skeptical, and lacking critical thinking skills.
If You told me you believed in Bigfoot I would probably laugh in your face as well.

I just have one less guy I am not married to. So I'm almost as unmarried as single people.

I'm an atheist and I agree with you, but you shared what a famous comedian is saying. Of course a comedian is using sarcasm in this kind of setting. I'm pretty sure Ricky could debate on the topic without sarcasm and still have lots of valid points.

Bro is the type of the dude that thinks he wins an argument when he points out a writing mistake

So, he has no argument at all?

What a waste of time!

I think Alex O’Connell is a great representation of respectful atheist debate.
