Personally, I don't believe in supernatural beings as I've never seen any evidence that can stand up to scrutiny. Maybe there are such entities out there, but they seem to have no interest in us. They don't care if we suffer, die, live in poverty or are enslaved. So what is the purpose of believing in them. Life is wonderful and for me I only think I'll experience it once.

I told a kind young work colleague that I'm an atheist. She said to me, "So, you don't believe in anything."

I smiled and said, "I believe in kindness. I believe in education and intellect. I believe in creativity. I believe in hard work. I believe in love. I believe in helping others. I believe in curiosity and wonder. I believe in skepticism. I believe in morality and ethics. I believe in laughter and in crying. I believe in the beauty and persistence of nature and natural laws. I believe in fact and evidence and the scientific method. I believe in leaving the world a better place than I found it. She really hadn't considered the possibility that a person can be fulfilled and purposeful without a god, and she'd been fed the Christian-filtered "atheists don't believe in anything" tripe all her life. We're fine friends. And so it goes.
