*This video was recorded during my backpacking trip through Yosemite in the end of July. China and Russia seemingly enjoy having their fingers in the African pie, but what are they doing there? And should we be worried?

I deployed to Djibouti Africa. There was a Chinese military base 400 yards from the US base.. thanks for the analysis Peter!

As a Nigerian, i am glad to see your objective coverage of African geopolitics. Your assessment on Russian and Chinese moves here is so true. China is pretty much here for cheap resource extraction and debt diplomacy for their own benefit. Already they have started repossessing government houses and planes and other assets from my country since our inept government is heavily indebted to them for projects that are largely incomplete. As for Russia, they're here for displacing the west and easy access to resources for their war in Ukraine. The three Sahel countries that "kicked out" France with the help of Russia are already experiencing increased insecurity and hardly anyone talks about that. The Tuareg rebels are gaining more ground and even these insurgencies are making way into the rest of west Africa. Even in the North of my country, during the recent protests, there were several agitators waving Russian flags and demanding regime change here😔😔😔😔

Mat and Winston from The China Show sent me. They have also been educating their audience on the Belt and Road Initiative. Interesting and informative video.

Francis Fukuyama explains that all these projects had already been rejected by Western aid agencies as non-economically viable, but China used different criteria for assessing the economic viability of infrastructure projects, as projects in China, such as a bridge over a river, may not make economic sense in isolation, but it would promote broader economic growth that the Chinese government could capture through other means (income taxes etc) and thus keep servicing the debts. In foreign countries the other means are not available to Chinese funders, but because they didnt adjust their methodologies they approved non-viable projects, as we now see as the projects cant service the loans

I love how Russia calls NATO Expansion Imperialism and then turns around and overthrows governments for gold mines

As an African I remain indebted to Russia for helping us to be free from the mzungus especially the British who castrated most of our MAUMAU freedom fighters in Kenya. They were our friends at the time of need while the West European mzungus were committing a genocide against us just like how the mzungus are now aiding Israel commit genocide against the Palestinians. What are Russia and China doing in Africa, pretty much whatever they have always done, stirring up shyte and trying to corner strategic influence and resources. Been going in since the '60s at least and underpinned much of decolonisation. This is particularly applicable to Russia, the Chinese did dabble in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, but they figured it was better to buy influence with the victors, rather than taking a punt on which tribal group would come out on top.

Satellite imagery shows that the Sahara is shrinking, not expanding. The best explanation that I have heard is that the increased CO2 concentration allows plants to open the leaf stomata less so they uptake enough CO2 but respire less water. More CO2 equals more plants equals less CO2 which is not considered in the climate models. Regardless of the reason, the Sahara is shrinking, not growing.
