I always think of Jesus and the disciples be much older, around 40+. But yes, Jesus was 30 when He started His ministry.

Knowing the ages provides context to show why it was not unusual for the men to leave behind their lives and become disciples of Jesus as rabbi.

I saw somewhere in Jewish history that only woman and children could stand next to the cross, which could explain why only John was there. You had to be 12 or older to leave your father and follow a teacher, so John was at least 12 but probably no older than 18, 20.

I like listening to Ray Vander Laan on these types of subjects, he studied in Isreal in their schools where normally gentiles are not allowed to learn but God made a way for him.

Jesus and Peter paid a temple tax (Matthew 17:24-27). This tax was required of those 20 years and older, but no mention is made of the other disciples paying it, which suggests they were under that age. Most likely stared around 12 or earlier following Jesus. Who else would argue who is the best disciple lol

Peter more likely to be older because he was old enough to be married

I have a question. Jesus said to Peter, upon this rock I will build my church. But then Paul showed up and gave us all the rules and wrote all the letters to the church. What happened to Peter's assignment by Jesus?

Jesus didn't always follow Jewish customs did he? So could it be that he didn't follow the customary practice of when he took on and how old his disciples were? I'm not sure, just asking. 🤔

That someone is fishing doesn't mean that that was his full time career. Even today, planty of children fish and are not considersd full time fishermen. 2. There were no rabbis until after the destruction of the second temple, instead they had temple priests. 3. The greek word used denoted any in-law, millions of unmarried people have inlaws because their sibling is married. Conclusions, host has a habit of positing erroneous conjecture, then using said conjecture to derive meaning.

Could the capital punishment that jesus got have been applied to even the youngest of these disciples if they were caught?

Probably in those days the average age of death was probably 40-60, today many countries today the average of death is this.
