If your nose looks straight, could it still be broken?

When you think of a broken nose, you may only think about the nasal bones on the bridge of your nose, which defines the structure of the nose and would clearly show any injury to it. However, injury to other bones in the nose, like nasal cartilages or the nasal septum, may not be visible on a simple x-ray and the nose may still look perfectly normal. This is called a deviated septum.

Patients with a deviated septum will complain that their breathing improves when they pull on their cheeks or when using nasal strips. The effects of a deviated septum may not be immediate - the nose can compensate after an injury by working harder. This may cause symptoms like a stuffy nose, trouble breathing when sleeping, and sinus problems to worsen over time. If you have breathing or sinus difficulties after nasal trauma, even years later, it is best to see the opinion of a nasal specialist like Dr. Tadros, regardless if your nose appears crooked or straight.

Years ago, I was night swimming with my cousins. I didn’t know there was a gutter below the water and hit my nose pretty hard. My head literally rang and I blacked out for a few seconds. I never told anyone, but there was bruising for a few days. I was not able to apply ice on the area. I’m not sure if the bump on the bridge of my nose and the slight crookedness is due to that or if its just what my nose is supposed to look. Luckily, I never had problems with breathing or pain. Kinda find it unique now, since most people here do not have such bump, unlike other countries.

How can we tell the difference between the natural "Nasal Cycle" (that mediates an alternating air-flow between the 2 nostrils) & a pathological state wherein the blockage is a symptom of some compensatory process ?

i got punched really hard straight in the nose when i was 11 and i think that is the reason my nose is crooked. my parents do not have crooked noses. i am 17 now, what should i do? is getting facial surgery worth it?

I have a big problem.. please give me advice. I was on my phone and my brother threw a pillow at me that hit the phone on my nose which started to bleed. Now my nose is a bit crooked and has this reddish pinkish line on it and my parents say it’s not broken. I know it is but I don’t know what to do! Please help?

Watching this bc I woke up with a very sore nose. Right at the bridge of my nose. It looks a little swollen & feels very bruised. I wish I had a cool story about what happened but I don't. I do know that when I squint my eyes, it makes my nose bunch up a little which makes my eyes water & then my nose runs. Other than that I feel perfectly fine & haven't been sick.

Can you fracture your septum? I have pain on the side of the left nostril on the septum side, it is painful to touch the end of the nose and the left side and especially move the bit underneath.

Hi was hit in the nose by accident, my nose is ok on one side but on the other it has slightly caved and it feels soft although it feels like the bones are on? Is it possible that the caving is just from cartridge damage rather than broken nose?

I was in a fight with some one and the person hit on my nose 2 weeks ago my nose still pains everyday and my eyes started paining I didn't went to a docter for a check up does my nose perhaps infect my eyes sometimes I can't sleep because of the pain or must I go and see a docter?
