The SKYACTIV family of engines delivers greater fuel economy and fewer emissions in a lightweight, responsive design. Every time a SKYACTIV engine is fired up, an immediate connection between vehicle and driver occurs.

The SKYACTIV-G 2.5 T is the first turbocharged engine in the SKYACTIV-G series. By succeeding the advanced combustion technology and the low resistance structure from the previous SKYACTIV-G series, this new engine provides exceptional acceleration performance. In order to stabilize the combustion at all rpm ranges, optimal control of water temperature is essential. The water jacket spacer inside the engine block, reduces heat loss to the coolant, thus improving both fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

A whole new turbo system, “Dynamic Pressure Turbo” has been implemented. At low rpms, the volume of the exhaust ports is reduced by closing a series of valves located just before the turbine that drivers the turbocharger. This results in solving the turbo-lag problem. The cylinder’s charging efficiency is improved by the scavenging effect, caused by the 4-3-1 exhaust manifold. Also, exhaust gas is supplied to the turbine more efficiently by suppressing the exhaust interference. By extracting the full potential of the turbo system, the engine produces a linear response with great amount of torque at all rpm ranges. The use of cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) helps prevent knocking and lower exhaust gas temperature, improving fuel efficiency throughout the entire rpm range.

Overall, our patented Dynamic Pressure Turbo is crafted to give you a higher level of power at lower levels of rpm with no lag, which means you get a smooth, powerful ride with superb fuel economy. The all-new SKYACTIV-G 2.5 T, drives Mazda’s “Celebrate Driving” experience and “Superior Environmental Performance” to the next level.

Now available in – 2018 Mazda6 and 2018 Mazda CX-9.

110, 000 miles later, my turbo motor is still running great.

Last March (about 7 months ago) I bought a 2019 CX-5 (mid-sized CUV) with this engine in it. It is insanely quick. The turbo is always right there across all RPMs. I'm on a Mazda Owner's Forum and reported mileage for this car with this engine is 25MPG-30MPG+. Again, this is a CUV, not a sedan.

Lots of things the video did not touch upon. One of them is that this engine outputs 23 more HP when using 93 octane instead of 87 (250HP vs 237 @ 5, 000 RPM). Some have reported higher mileage with 93 octane, which reduces (but does not eliminate) the extra cost for it.

Such nice cars.

Doesn't this technically count as a variable geometry turbo? It basically is one but just with the vanes relocated further up the exhaust stream

Can we have this engine in the Miata RF? limited slip diff and automatic(those use it for some traffic, work maybe) and manual also, that be awesome!

what about the direct injection issue : carbon build up on valves and intakemanifold? is there any injector to clean that area?

Now put it in the Mazda 3 Hatch

Edit: I meant with a manual transmission, obviously.

Yeah, my CX 5 GT Reserve is quick but on 100 octane racing gas (US $8.00/gallon) it is MUCH quicker. I also installed a K&N engine air filter but can't feel much difference after 2, 500 RPM when it should be making a difference.
->The installation of a Cork Sport turbo down pipe is one upgrade that helped by noticeably improving throttle response.
That said, I'm going to improve my CX 5's already good handling by replacing the OEM 225 width tires (when worn-out) with 245/50/19 tires for even better braking and handling - and a tiny bit less mileage.
LOVE this SUV's turbo four even more than my 2007 RAV 4's 3.5 L. V6.

They should build F1 engines, but with Honda leaving F1 it isn't very inspiring for manufacturers like mazda to enter the F1 scene sadly

Sweet. I;m gonna have to peel my wife off her seat when I slam the throttle.

An awful lot of marketing fluff for 1990's performance characteristics.
