I am a tech at a mazda dealership and there are a few things that you might have mixed up Scotty. If the mazda had GDI and a TC then I'm sure your not talking about a current skyactiv mazda considering skyactiv + turbo didn't happen untill around 2016 in the cx-9 model which is a 40, 000$ SUV. I believe your referring to a cx-7 which was a power train of a ford 2.3 mrz engine. And during that time mazda had been having a fair amount of reliability issues. Untill 2013 when mazda came up with skyactiv technology and re-established their Japanese roots. I work on them everyday. And I am a honda person myself. But I have to be honest these skyactiv Mazda's are racking up 150-250k and I see a lot of them! So I would have to disagree with you on your opinion here Scotty.

Years later Scotty created a video telling us that he was wrong about Mazda. Really, he did.

Scotty is stuck in the 90s when Mazda had some transmission issues on some vehicles like CX7 when they were still with Ford. The Skyactive was introduced around 2010 (post Ford) and there have been NO reports of mass transmission failures, to the contrary they are super reliable. Scotty, Camrys had a sticky gas pedal issue some years back and recently Lexus recalled many cars due to an issue in fuel lines so Toyotas are bad, right?

Please have your facts straight before making generalizations.

I bought my 2013 cx-5 started with 50K miles now 2019 190K miles its been flawless so far love the car

You dropped the ball on this one. The Mazda CX5 is one of the best vehicles ever made. The automatic transmissions in them are extremely dependable.

Mazda is better now as the transmissions you are talking about are from the Ford era. The transmissions Mazda uses are made by the same manufacturer as Toyota’s transmissions.

Was hoping Scotty was wrong, cause I got a new CX-5 in 2019. Reading some of the comments made me feel better. It was the best selling car that year I believe and highly rated.

Mazda transmissions are made by Aisin which is the same company that makes Toyota’s transmissions! If you bash Mazda’s automatics then you’re also saying that Toyota’s autos are rubbish too!

Sorry Scotty you are wrong on this one. Mazda has never made a turbocharged CX-5. I think the car you worked on was a older CX-7 from 2008-2012 that was back when Mazda was with Ford and was using the 2.3 turbocharged motor. Yes that motor was completely different and NOT the new skyactiv design. The turbocharged 2.3 had some issues with VVT and stretched timing chains. Ford still uses the 2.3 turbo on the mustang and others. But the 2.5 Skyactiv motor is completely different and came out in 2013. The first turbocharged skyactiv 2.5 was in 2016 in the CX-9. Please do some research. Still love your channel.

Mazda CX-5 6 speed auto is way better than a CVT. Mine runs great!

Mazda is just as good if not better than Toyota/Honda in my region.

I have a 2018 CX-5 that I had since 18k, it now has 112k and not a single issue mechanically. I changed out the transmission fluid at about 90k and it wasn’t that bad. Now I’m in the process of doing brakes, belts, and other fluids for the next leg to 200k. Im very happy with this car. The struts are still pretty good as well, no squeaks either

funny cuz everyone i talk to LOVES there mazda...ive never in my life or anyone i know of say "MY MAZDA is broken down!" it never happens...mazdas are great cars...very reliable....maybe even more so than toyotas to be honest...

Sorry Scotty, but Mazda’s automatic transmissions have been just as reliable as any other since the late 90’s. 😂
