I made rag rugs in 1980. You could buy fabric cut a couple inches on rolls by the pound. My strips were cut with pinking shears and used a cut in the fabric to connect strips together or tied them together. I still have and use mine 42 years later and they have never frayed. I even made heart shaped rugs.

My grandmother taught me how to crochet rag rugs from worn out fabrics when I was a young girl. My grandfather made the hook. Wish I had that hook!

Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦 everything here is ridiculously expensive so I made rugs (many) out of old sheets and old clothes and they are amazing, we all love them. I ripped them 😁They also wash up quickly in the machine, which I worried about before. I enjoyed it so much and am so glad I would reuse, reduce and recycle 🤯 ps I really like those colors

Thanks, that was fun. It brought back fond memories of my mum and the many rag rugs she made out of clothes that had already been recycled. Not a scrap was ever wasted.

One of my grandmother's crocheted rugs like this year's ago. I still have the last one she made for me, from my old jeans.

I can't wait to get started on a rag rug! I'm a quilter (and I crochet in the evening while watching TV with my husband). I have a ton of fabric scraps that will be put to good use. And, the beauty of these rugs are they look fabulous and last forever! Many thanks, Ladies; I'll be starting one tonight 😊 ❤️

This is a great project! Years ago I made a round crochet rug (Double Crochet stitch) big enough to put under my round dining room table. I still have that rug today. It's so heavy, my cats love it and they can't destroy it! LOL Then I made a square one for my bathroom. Back then they didn't have jelly rolls so had to cut the fabric into strips, jelly rolls would make this so much easier. Thank you for the reminder how to make!

I've recently acquired a floor loom and will be using up my fabric stash from quilting. I had already crotched some mug rugs and trivets, but the loom will make fast work of rug making. Thanks for this video!

Thank you! this is a fun craft. I have made these with old t-shirts cut into strips and crocheted. Jelly rolls will be more colorful! Her hook is larger than I have used, that will make it easier too. I think a small "rug" in reds and greens would be perfect for my Christmas mug! Another idea might be for a hot plate on my buffet table. Nice to meet an old craft in a new way.

I think for learning it would be great to use batiks then you wouldn’t have to worry about right side

That's a nice project, too. A friend of mine make these rag rugs from old t-shirts and they are always so handy. For an oval add in between the sides some more double stitches and for a round one start with only three center chain stiches and add double stitches over the whole round. If you make not enough double stitches it would Form a kind of a bowl, if you make to many stitches it will be wavy. By both options you has to go back, unreval the stitches until your rug is laying flat and start again adding more or less double stitches. Hope this make sence. Have a wonderful season, greetings from Germany 😃🎅🎁

Misty is someone you’d like to hang around with. She’s so attentive and sweet. Thanks to you both. P.S……..just a suggestion……I’d sew the strips end to end using a tiny stitch (less chance of opening) before I cut it into 3rds or half…. Save a lot of time 😊

My grandfather used to crochet rugs out of bread bags. I haven't tried crocheting a rug out of cloth or plastic. Thanks for a fun idea.
